SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
CHARLESTON, S.C. – A group of individuals from The Citadel track and field teams travel to East Tennessee State this weekend to compete at the 2016 Buccaneer Invitational. The Bulldogs are entering their third week of the indoor season.
Events are set to begin 8 a.m. Friday with 60-meter hurdles (as part of the pentathlon) and finish at roughly 8:15 p.m. with the 5000-meter run. The Buccaneer Invitational then picks up Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the women's long jump and wraps up at 5:45 p.m. with the 4x400 relays.
The Bulldogs are sending 21 cadet-athletes to participate at the meet. Sophomore Derrick Freeland will compete in both the shot put and weight throw this weekend after a pair of eighth-place finishes and a personal-best in the shot put at last Saturday's Wesley A. Brown Invitational.
The Citadel men's sprinters will also have a busy slate at ETSU. Louis Lawrence, Josiah Johnson, Tevin Floyd and Devin Singleton are all running in the 60-meter and 200-meter sprints. In distance events, Jamie Cunningham will compete in the 5000-meter and Ross Jordan and Michael Lantz in the 3000-meter.
Among others, Malik Diggs rounds out the solid group of men heading to the Buccaneer Invite. Last weekend, Diggs clocked an 8.49 to finish fifth and secure the third-fastest time in program history in the 60-meter high hurdles. He'll try and top that time this weekend in that event.
Sarah Johnson, Ty'Rhonza Harris, Caillian Colquitt, Kaitlyn Moore, Asyria Daniels and Jessica DeWitte will represent The Citadel women's squad at ETSU. Johnson and Harris are participating in the 200-meter and 400-meter competitions while Colquitt and DeWitte are set for multiple distance events. Daniels will be The Citadel's lone long jump entry while Moore is scheduled to be the only Bulldog in the shot put.
