LIVE AUCTION
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Head coach
Lori Bonacci and The Citadel golf team are raising money for the Folds of Honor Military Tribute Program this spring. The Bulldogs are auctioning off golf bags that celebrate the life and sacrifices of 2nd Lieutenant Almar L. Fitzgerald and all funds raised will benefit Folds of Honor.
The Folds of Honor Military Tribute Program provides the opportunity for any collegiate golf program to honor a fallen or severely wounded American soldier by having a team member carry a golf bag displaying the name, rank and branch of service of the soldier being honored during the school year. This year, The Citadel golf team is carrying two bags in memory of Lieutenant Fitzgerald, who died on February 21, 2006, from injuries sustained in a roadside blast in Iraq.
As part of the Folds of Honor program, the Bulldogs are selling the bags with all proceeds going toward the cause. Folds of Honor works to ensure that no family is left behind in the fight to preserve American freedom and gives back to the families of soldiers that were killed or disabled.
The first bag, carried by Bulldog senior
Eraina Manor, was purchased by the president of Christie's Cookies, Fleming Wilt. Wilt bought the bag for the sister of Almar, Chajuan Fitzgerald, who works at Christie's Cookies. Coach
Lori Bonacci and her team are now auctioning off the second bag to the highest bidder. The auction is live from now until April 12 and is only available on
CitadelSports.com/auctions.
The golf bag can picked up in person or shipped to the highest bidder with standard shipping costs not included. The minimum starting price for bids is $100.
The Citadel is hosting its first regular season tournament in Coach Bonacci's eight-year tenure on Monday and Tuesday at Patriot's Point Links. Admission to the Bulldog Invitational is free both days. The golf bag benefiting Folds of Honor will be used at the tournament for bidders to see, but all bids must be made online.
