MEN'S DAY ONE RESULTS  |  WOMEN'S DAY ONE RESULTS

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel men's and women's track and field teams completed a strong day one Thursday to open the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Capers Williamson and Mady Riegel completed a sweep in the javelin throw as they each claimed conference titles to highlight the Bulldogs' evening.

Williamson dismantled his own Southern Conference and school record in the javelin with an eye-popping heave of 239 feet, 4 inches. His throw went nearly 40 feet farther than the second-place competitor. Williamson has now won back-to-back conference titles in the event and ranks 10th in the NCAA East Region. He needs to finish in the top 12 at the NCAA East Regional, which runs from May 26-28, to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Riegel followed up Williamson's performance by shattering her own school record in the women's javelin throw. Her best toss traveled 138 feet, 5 inches as she won her first career Southern Conference championship.

Two other Bulldogs also excelled in the javelin competition. Freshman Charlie Hatler reached 179 feet to secure a personal record and place third. Additionally, freshman Kameron Cass scored points in the event, placing sixth overall with a throw of 107 feet, 4 inches. Both Hatler and Cass earned SoCon all-freshman honors for their efforts and Hatler received All-Southern Conference recognition.

The Citadel saw two more cadet-athletes clinch SoCon all-freshman status in field events Thursday. Daniel Andrews was the highest-placing freshman in the hammer throw, finishing 12th with a toss of 138 feet, 10 inches, and Jordan Williams was one of the top freshmen in the long jump, leaping 22 feet, 5.25 inches.

Andrews was joined in the hammer throw by Derrick Freeland, Amos Jackson and Richard Bertrand. Freeland scored points by finishing seventh with a throw of 160 feet, 7 inches while Jackson and Bertrand posted personal records with heaves of 151 feet, 2 inches and 143 feet, 3 inches, respectively.

Elsewhere, The Citadel had several sprinters qualify for Friday's finals. Devin Singleton, Tyler Jackson and Tevin Williams each advanced past the preliminaries in the 400-meter dash. Singleton and Jackson placed fourth and seventh with personal-record times of 49.01 and 49.67, respectively.

Freshman Josiah Johnson also had a stellar day, qualifying for the finals in both the 100-meter and 200-meter. Johnson clocked a personal record in the 100 and placed second in prelims with a 10.76 split and later collected a personal-best time of 22.00 in the 200 to advance to Friday's competition. Freshman Louis Lawrence also qualified in the 100-meter sprint by placing seventh in prelims with a time of 10.97.

Junior Malik Diggs was the final men's sprinter to advance to Friday's finals. He finished third overall in the prelims of the 110 hurdles, clocking a personal-record 14.61.

Senior distance runners Caillian Colquitt and Jessica DeWitte rounded out a solid day for the Bulldogs. Colquitt placed fifth overall at the SoCon Outdoor Championships in the 10,000-meter run for the second consecutive year with a time of 39:02.03. DeWitte placed eighth overall in the steeplechase with an 11:55.84 and later qualified for Friday's 1500-meter finals with a time of 4:58.92.
