Bulldogs End Preseason With 3-0 Win

Box Score (PDF)

CHARLESTON, S.C.
– The Citadel women's soccer team scored 56 seconds into Tuesday's game and never looked back, defeating USC Beaufort 3-0 in the last exhibition game of 2016.

"The game was a great way to wrap up our preseason with a win, three goals and a shutout," head coach Ciaran Traquair said. "We were a little sluggish in our performance and lacked in our ability in the final third of the field. We are still early in the season and the girls are working hard to get up to full speed. It was great to get a victory and I'm pleased we are going into Sunday with some confidence."

Junior Tinslee Dilday's second goal of the preseason came less than one minute into the contest after she collected the rebound from Samara Nche's blocked shot and easily found the back of the net to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Dilday continued her dominant play with an assist 30 minutes later, finding Katherine Arroyo open in the box for the Bulldogs' second goal of the game. The score remained 2-0 heading into halftime.

The Bulldogs continued to pour it on in the second half with Arroyo notching her second goal of the contest thanks to an assist from Emilie Valenciano. Arroyo again received the pass in the box and beat the keeper to give The Citadel a 3-0 lead in the 84th minute.

Offensively, the Bulldogs registered a staggering 30 shots and 17 shots on goal. Arroyo accounted for almost half of those, recording 13 shots and eight shots on goal in 81 minutes of play. The Citadel finished the contest with eight corner kicks compared to the Sand Sharks' three.

USC Beaufort was held to just eight shots and four shots on goal thanks to a swarming defense by the Bulldogs. Freshman Logan Leask tallied four saves and registered a shutout in 90 minutes of play.

The Bulldogs open the 2016 regular season on Sunday at 1 p.m. against UNC Asheville. Admission to W.L.I. Field is free for the game with live stats and video available at CitadelSports.com.
