CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team kicks off the 2016 season Sunday afternoon as they take on UNC Asheville at W.L.I. Field.
Â
"We have worked tirelessly on our team shape and system throughout preseason," head coach
Ciaran Traquair said. "I am comfortable with where we are at and have confidence going into our first game at home. The ladies have been fantastic with their work rate and enthusiasm to learn. I'm excited to get going for real now on Sunday."
Â
The Bulldogs come into Sunday's match following a dominant 3-0 win over USC Beaufort in their last exhibition game of 2016.
Tinslee Dilday collected her second goal of the preseason and an assist in the game while
Katherine Arroyo accounted for the other two goals in the contest. Both cadet-athletes finished the preseason with two goals while Arroyo tallied 14 shots and eight shots on goal.
Â
Freshman
Logan Leask played the entirety of both games in goal for the Bulldogs, snagging six saves and posting a shutout on Aug. 16 against USC Beaufort.
Â
This will be the second consecutive year The Citadel has opened the regular season against UNC Asheville and just the third meeting between the two teams. UNC Asheville, a member of the Big South, concluded last season with an 11-9 record. Â
Â
Kickoff for the season opener is set for 1 p.m. and admission to W.L.I. Field is free. Live stats and video will be available at CitadelSports.com.
