LEXINGTON, Va. – The Citadel wrestling team out-matched VMI 19-16 on Friday night.

VMI (1-10, 0-4 SoCon) had a hot start with a decision and major decision in the 125-pound and 133-pound weight classes to take a 7-0 lead. The Bulldogs (2-7, 1-2) responded quickly with a 10-6 decision by the 141-lb. freshman
Douglas Gudenburr, a close 11-10 decision by graduate student
Aaron Walker in the 157-lb. weight class, and a pin in 3 minutes, 27 seconds by 149-lb. junior
Ty Buckiso. These three wins pulled the Bulldogs ahead 12-7.

The Keydets answered by earning three decisions, giving them their final lead of the night 16-12. Sophomore
Sawyer Root earned a 8-0 major decision over VMI's 197-lb. Taylor Thomas, and senior
Joe Bexley closed out the night with a 5-1 decision in the 285-lb. weight class over Thomas Shea-Roop to secure the win for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs will continue their road tour on Sunday when they travel to Annapolis, Maryland, to compete in the All-Academy Championship hosted by Navy. The tournament is set to begin at 10 a.m. and live stats and a video stream will be available at CitadelSports.com
