LEXINGTON, Va. – The Citadel's track and field teams faced off against VMI on Saturday at the new Corp Physical Training Facility.
The Bulldogs' men's squad had 12 personal records, seven wins and three performances that crested the top-10 in school history. The women's team had eight personal records, three wins and seven top-10 performances in school history.
Senior
Malik Diggs finished first overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.30 seconds, beating his personal best of 8.36 at the No. 2 spot in program history. The men's 4x400-meter relay team of
Josiah Johnson,
Devin Singleton,
Stephan Kulick and
Samuel Santiago won the event with a time of 3:28.97.
Sophomore
Clarence Richardson competed in the 400-meter race and took first place overall in 50.56, and Kulick finished first in the 800-meter race in 1:58.59. In the field events, senior
Mitchell Noel placed first in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 2.75 inches. Senior
Dondray Copeland won the triple jump with a leap of 42-1.5, and junior
Derrick Freeland won the weight throw with a toss of 54-1.75. The Bulldogs eventually fell 78-68 to the Keydets.
For the women's squad, freshman
Jessy Page won the weight throw with a toss of 49-7.25 to earn the No. 3 spot on the all-time list and junior
Mady Riegel was third with a toss of 47-1.75 to move to fifth on the programs' all-time performance list. Senior
Sarah Johnson won the 400-meter race with a time of 60.15, and the 4x400 relay team won with a time of 4:06.87 with
Sarah Johnson,
Emani Little,
Hannah Murray and
Ty'Rhonza Harris. The Citadel's women's team dropped to VMI 87-51.
The Bulldogs continue their season on Friday when they travel to Johnson City, Tennessee, to compete in the Buccaneer Invitational from February 3 - 4. Results for the track meet will be available at CitadelSports.com.
