CHARLESTON, S.C. –The Citadel volleyball team defeated the South Carolina State Bulldogs 3-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 6:00 p.m. in McAlister Field House.
The Bulldogs (7-16, 1-5 SoCon) had a hot start against S.C. State to win the first set 25-22 with a night-high 17 kills total. The Bulldogs then returned to sweep the remaining two sets 25-17 and 27-25, respectively.
Freshman
Sharlissa De Jesus was yet again the lead attacker for the Bulldogs with 16 kills, and freshman
Mellanie King followed closely with 11 kills. Sophomore
Sarah Dobrich was also a key impact player on the night with six blocks overall and four service aces.
Up next, the Bulldogs will hit the road on Friday, Oct. 13 to take on SoCon opponent UNC-Greensboro at 6:00 p.m. UNCG is 9-9 overall this season and 2-4 in-conference after falling most recently to Furman 3-1 on Oct. 7.
Following Friday's match, the Bulldogs will continue their tour of North Carolina when they head to Cullowhee, N.C. on Saturday, Oct. 14 to compete against Western Carolina at 12:00 p.m. The Catamounts are 6-13 overall and 1-5 in the SoCon after dropping their match to Wofford 3-2 on Oct. 7.
