Bulldogs Head to ECU for Pirate Invitational on Friday

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel's men's and women's cross country teams spent their off week preparing for their final regular-season meet, the East Carolina Pirate Invitational. This week's race is scheduled for Friday Oct. 13, at Overton's Lake Kristi located in Grimesland, N.C.

Recapping the Will Wilson Invitational on Sept. 30 for the Bulldogs, freshman Amber Opp, earned a first-place finish in the 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 18 minutes, 53 seconds. This was Opp's first win individually and her third consecutive race as the first Bulldog to cross the finish line.

The men's squad finished second overall in the 8K and senior Jamie Cunningham led the way with a second-place finish, the first of his career, in 27:13.40.

Heading into the final regular-season meet, the squad will look to improve once again before entering the postseason and competing at the Southern Conference Championships on Oct. 28 in Spartanburg, S.C.

This weekend, the women's team will begin their 6K race at 5:30 p.m., with the men's team set to begin an 8K at 6:05 p.m. Final results will be available at CitadelSports.com.
