Freshmen Set School Records at Pirate Invitational on Friday

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Citadel's men's and women's cross country teams competed in the ECU Pirate Invitational on Friday, Oct. 13.
Freshman Amber Opp broke The Citadel women's 6,000-meter record with a time of 22 minutes, 48.77 seconds, a personal best for the Morgantown, N.C., native. Opp placed 19th overall and was the first Bulldog to cross the finish line for her fourth consecutive race.
Also for the women's team, freshman Casey Miller finished in 23:32.40, the fifth-best 6K time in program history.
The men's squad finished ninth overall in the 8K with senior Jamie Cunningham leading the way with a time of 26:14.72, a new personal best.
Up next, the Bulldogs will head to Spartanburg, S.C. for the postseason Southern Conference Championships on Oct. 28. Last season, the men's team finished ninth overall and the women's team took tenth.
