Men 2nd, Women 4th in Upstate Trip to Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Citadel cross country teams traveled upstate Saturday morning for their second meet of the season at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational. The men and women took part in their first 8K and 5K challenge of the year, respectively, with the men taking a second-place finish with 39 points. The women finished fourth in a crowded field that included the South Carolina Gamecocks.

MEN'S RESULTS
- The men finished second with 39 points, securing five in the top 17. They were 14 points behind winner UNC Asheville, whose five placed in the top nine.
- Sam Sharnas led the way for the Bulldogs in second place at 25:35.7.
- Owen Sharnas took fifth with a 25:59.1 mark.
- Andrew Smith was next through the chute in sixth at 26:26.7.
- Ty Duben was next for The Citadel, finishing 12th at 26:56.3.
- Will Ray anchored the scoring with his 17th-place time of 27:47.1
- Robert Perrecone took 24th with a mark of 28:11.5
- Aidan O'Donnell ran 25th at 28:12.6
- Liam O'Donnell finished 26th at 28:24.3
- Sutter Guttery was 30th, coming in at 29:14.9
WOMEN'S RESULTS
- The women finished fourth with 99 points, as the top five finished between 7th and 39th place. South Carolina posted a perfect 15 to win the meet.
- Heidi Fortin was the first non-South Carolina finisher, placing seventh with a time of 19:13.1.
- Emma Cunningham took 22nd with a time of 21:06.7.
- Darrian Cole finished 26th, coming in at 21:33.6.
- Leska Whitmarsh earned 33rd, clocking in at 23:09.1.
- Sara-Grace Melton took 39th at 24:36.3.
- Kennedy DeLancy was right behind Melton in 40th at 24:49.5.

- The Bulldogs head up the coast on Friday, Sept. 30 for the evening Coastal Carolina Invitational, set to begin at 5 P.M.
