CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Citadel volleyball team concluded its season with a 3-1 loss to Mercer at the 2017 Southern Conference Championship on Friday, Nov. 17 in Cullowhee, N.C.
The Bulldogs (8-26, 2-14 SoCon) dropped the first set 25-20 to the Bears (10-20, 4-13), before answering with a 25-22 victory in the second set. The Bears bounced back taking sets three and four to give them the 3-1 win.
Senior
Moriah Smith wrote her name in The Citadel's history books during her final performance Friday after earning nine kills to break the program's all-time career kills record with 1,347 kills. Smith also earned the team's most digs of the season with 321.
Freshmen
Sharlissa De Jesus and
Mellanie King were the lead attackers for the Bulldogs against the Bears, each earning 12 kills. De Jesus led the Bulldogs in season kills with 359 to earn the No. 4 spot on the program's all-time list.
