CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel baseball team lost the series finale 3-1 at the College of Charleston on Sunday afternoon at Patriot's Point.

The Bulldogs (3-7) outhit the Cougars 6-5, but could not overcome a 3-0 deficit after the first inning.

Offensively, the team left three base runners stranded. The Bulldogs got on the board in the fourth inning when Jonathan Sabo led off with a base hit. William Kinney followed with a belted double to left-center field to score Sabo with no outs, but Kinney was left at second to end the inning.

In the fifth inning, Taylor Cothran and J.D. Davis each reached with one out on back-to-back singles to give The Citadel one of its best scoring chances of the afternoon. The Cougars ended the threat, however, with a ground ball double play. Cothran and Davis each recorded two hits in the ball game to pace the offense.

After allowing three runs in the first inning, starting pitcher Will Pillsbury settled down to throw three scoreless innings. The freshman allowed two hits over four innings with two strikeouts.

Graduate transfers Aaron Lesiak and Marlin Morris combined to shut out the Cougars over the final four innings. Lesiak threw 1.2 scoreless innings despite five base runners, while Morris struck out one in the final 2.1 innings.

The Citadel will be back on the road visiting South Carolina on Tuesday in Columbia, South Carolina.
