MORROW, Ga. – The Citadel women's soccer team went on the road a weekend earlier than originally planned Sunday afternoon and fell 1-0 to Clayton State at Laker Field.
Clayton State's Manoly Baquerizo scored in the 25
th minute for the only goal on the afternoon, taking a long pass from Ann-Cathrin Zabel.
The Citadel (4-2) out-shot the Lakers (2-1) 21-9 in the game with 13 shots being on goal. Six of the Lakers' nine shots were on frame.
Hannah Roth led the Bulldogs' attack with five shots, two on goal, while
Cierra Skyers finished the 90-minute affair with four shots, including three on goal.
Georgia Robert and
Tori Zeltner each had three shots.
Freshman
Kaeley Johnston (4-2) played all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Bulldogs and recorded three saves on the day while Jessica Charman (2-1) made 13 saves to record her first shutout on the year for Clayton State.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to remain on the road next weekend, traveling to Jacksonville, Florida, to face a pair of traditionally strong teams in Jacksonville and North Florida. The Citadel will first take on the Dolphins of JU on Friday, Sept. 15, with the match against the Ospreys of UNF slated for Sunday, Sept. 17.
