Soccer Drops SoCon Match to Wofford

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team dropped a tough 4-0 Southern Conference (SoCon) game to Wofford Friday afternoon at Washington Light Infantry (WLI) Field. Lightning in the area forced play to be halted with 6:39 left in the second half and the game was ultimately called.

Wofford (5-5-1, 1-1-1 SoCon) was led by Hayley Younginer, who entered the match leading the nation in goals scored, goals scored per game, points and points per game. Younginer added to her totals Friday with a goal at the 32:00 mark of the first half and also had an assist on the game's first goal, giving her 17 goals scored and two assists on the season for 36 points.

Katie Beurerlein scored twice in the contest, once in each half, including netting the contest's first goal just 20 seconds in. Erin Wolfe had the Terriers' final goal of the afternoon just before play was suspended.

The Citadel (5-5, 0-2 SoCon) took 14 shots on Friday, out-shooting the Terriers 14-12, with 11 of the Bulldogs' attempts being on frame. Cierra Skyers took a team-high four shots with all four being on goal while Caroline Cashion added three shots, two on goal.

In goal, Mayson Liner (3-1-1) started the contest and earned the win in net, making three saves before Alex Carroll came in the finish the game off, making six saves in the second half. Logan Leask (1-3) was the goalie of record for the Bulldogs, making four saves.

The Citadel hosts Furman on Sunday, Oct. 1, in a 2 p.m. matchup at WLI Field.
