CHARLESTON, S.C. – Citadel head coach
Tony Skole has announced
Austin Cangelosi has joined the Bulldogs as an assistant coach. Cangelosi will work with assistant
Aaron Gershenfeld in coaching the Bulldogs' hitters and work with the outfielders.
Cangelosi was a four-year player at Indiana, where he played for Citadel Hall of Famer
Chris Lemonis.
"I'm so excited to add
Austin Cangelosi to our coaching staff," Skole said Wednesday. "Austin brings a ton of energy and is very positive. His personality is a great fit for our whole staff. Austin had a great college career, playing for Lemonis at Indiana and also comes from great baseball bloodlines. In addition to working with our outfielders and hitters, he'll also coach first base. I am very pleased to be able to have Austin as part of my staff here in Charleston."
Cangelosi was a versatile defender playing over five different positions in his time at IU. He tallied over 100 career starts and over 100 career hits including six triples, 11 home runs, and 58 RBIs. He has vast NCAA playoff experience as well, playing in three regionals.
The Hoosiers were the fourth-ranked national seed his first year losing to Stanford in the regional final. In his first season at Indiana, Cangelosi played with Chicago Cubs World Series Champion
Kyle Schwarber and second-round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox
Sam Travis. While playing alongside two MLB stars, the Hoosiers won the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles.
Cangelosi has baseball in his bloodline with his father, John, being a World Series Champion with the Florida Marlins and 13-year MLB veteran. John now owns The Bo Jackson Elite Sports Dome in Lockport, Illinois, where he is partners with legend Bo Jackson. Â
