CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team will close out the road portion of the 2018 regular season with games at Wofford and Furman. The Citadel first travels to Spartanburg where they will take on the Terriers on Sunday, Oct. 14 with kickoff slated for 2 p.m. The 'Dogs will then head to Greenville to take on the Paladins at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
ARROYO NATIONALLY
Redshirt junior
Katherine Arroyo is in the top-45 in NCAA Division I in two statistical categories. She is tied for eighth in the nation in shot accuracy (.667) and she is tied for 45th with three game-winning goals.
FIRST TIME GOAL SCORERS
Devyn Nyhart's goal in the 78th minute of the win over VMI, and
Ellie Burgess' goal in the 80th minute, were the first of their collegiate careers. The Bulldogs have now had five first-time scorers this season, including Nyhart, Burgess,
Kessy Bradshaw,
Emily Mason and
Mel Mikoy. The program record is six first-time collegiate goal scorers set in 2002 and matched in 2010. The five first-time goal scorers for this season match the 2013 season for third most.
BULLDOGS MOVING UP CAREER LISTS
Logan Dix, Arroyo and
Hannah Roth have all made moves up various career lists this season. Arroyo recently moved up into a tie for 12th all-time with nine career goals, scoring her fifth goal of the season in the win over VMI (9/30). The goal added two points to her career total, giving her 21, which moves her up into a tie for 15th. Arroyo is also tied for seventh with three career game-winning goals. Dix is also tied for 12th all-time with nine career goals as she has six so far this season and she is tied for 12th for career points with 23, including 15 so far this year. Her six goals scored on the year rank just outside the top 10 in program history for goals scored in a single season while her 15 points this season has her currently tied for 15th in program history for points in a single season. Roth moved up into a tie for 11th all-time with five assists for her career. Her four assists so far this season are tied for sixth-most by a Bulldog in a single season.
FRESHMEN RISING THROUGH THE RANKS
Three freshmen have risen through the ranks for freshman class records this season. Bradshaw is tied for 14th all-time for goals scored by a freshman with four. Her next goal will move her into a tie for ninth. Mikoy finds herself tied for sixth all-time with three assists. Her next assist will move her into a tie for third for assists by a freshman. Mason is just behind Mikoy with two assists already on the year, a mark that has her tied for 10th.
THE HISTORY WITH FURMAN
Furman leads the all-time series with a 16-2 mark, including 7-1 in Greenville. The Citadel broke through with the Bulldogs' first victory in the series in dramatic fashion on Oct. 31, 2010 in the Southern Conference Tournament. The 'Dogs won 2-1 in double overtime at WLI Field. The Bulldogs earned their first road win in the series on Oct. 3, 2014 with a 2-1 decision.
SCOUTING The PALADINS
Furman comes into Thursday's game with a 7-6 overall record and a 2-4 mark in Southern Conference play. The Paladins boast wins over Chattanooga and VMI in conference action after starting the season with three straight wins over Richmond, North Greenville and Presbyterian. Eleven different players have scored a goal this season for Furman, highlighted by
Erin Houlihan with five goals,
Amanda Baker with four and
Claudia Murphy with three goals. Houlihan and
Caitlyn Reilly sit atop the stats page with 12 points as Reilly boasts eight assists and two goals. Reilly leads the team with 44 shots on the year with 25 being on frame. Houlihan, Baker and Murphy all have two game-winners. In goal,
Kellsey Weaver has led the way making 12 starts in 13 appearances while playing over 920 minutes. Weaver has made 32 saves and boasts a 0.78 goals against average to go along with her 6-4 record.
THE HISTORY WITH Wofford
The Bulldogs are 3-14-1 all-time against Wofford. The Terriers are 8-1-1 in Spartanburg over The Citadel. The most recent Citadel victory came on Oct. 6, 2016 when the 'Dogs won 1-0 in Spartanburg.
SCOUTING The Terriers
Wofford brings a 3-10-1 overall record and 1-5 SoCon mark into the week. The Terriers are 1-6-1 at home this season with a 2-1 win over USC Upstate back on Friday, Sept. 7. Wofford's lone win in SoCon play came last week at VMI, snapping a five-game losing skid. Five Terriers have scored all 15 goals this season for Wofford with
Hayley Younginer and
Danie Segovia boasting four goals each. Younginer has tallied her four goals and one assist in just 11 games and leads the team with nine points, 42 shots, 23 shots on goal and two game-winning goals. Behind Younginer and Segovia,
Katie Gilligan has scored three goals on the year while
Emma Fletcher and
Eva Dailey have both scored two goals.
Maria Mon has seen the most action between the pipes for the Terriers, logging over 880 minutes while making nine starts in 12 appearances.
Mayson Liner has made five starts in six appearances for 389 minutes. Mon has made 87 saves on the year to go along with a 2.45 goals against average while Liner has 13 saves and a 3.01 GAA.
COMING UP
The Citadel will close the curtains on the 2018 regular season next weekend with home games against Western Carolina and ETSU at WLI Field. The Bulldogs will first welcome the Catamounts to Charleston on Friday, Oct. 19 with the Bucs coming to town on Sunday, Oct. 21.
