Weekend Preview: Soccer Closes Out Regular Season with Pair of Home Games

CHARLESTON, S.C. –
The Citadel women's soccer team will close out the regular season with two games at home this weekend. The Bulldogs will first welcome Western Carolina to WLI Field on Friday, Oct. 19 before ETSU comes calling on Sunday, Oct. 21. Friday's game will kick off at 3 p.m. while Sunday's contest will feature a 2 p.m. first kick.

SCORING MORE GOALS
The Bulldogs have scored 29 goals this season, the most since the 2014 team scored 34 goals. The 2012 team scored 38 goals on the year to set the standard, including 12 in the final game of the season against Delaware State. The Citadel has also scored at least one goal in 11 games. The 11 games with at least one goal scored is tied with last year's team for seventh-most in program history. The program record for most games with at least one goal scored came during the 2014 season when the Bulldogs scored a goal in 16 contests.

FIRST TIME GOAL SCORERS
In the 78th minute of Tuesday's game at Furman, freshman Taylor Diggs became the sixth different Bulldog to record her first collegiate goal this season. She joins fellow freshmen Devyn Nyhart, Kessy Bradshaw, Emily Mason and Mel Mikoy as well as sophomore Ellie Burgess as first-time goal scorers this year. The six first-time collegiate goal scorers this year ties the program record set originally in 2002 and matched in 2010.

BULLDOGS MOVING UP CAREER LISTS
Logan Dix, Katherine Arroyo, Hannah Roth and Kooba Richard have all made moves up various career lists this season. Over the weekend, Dix moved up into sole possession of 11th all-time for career goals scored as she netted her 10th-career goal on Sunday at Wofford. She now has 25 career points (10 goals, 5 assists), moving her into sole possession of 11th in program history. Arroyo is currently tied for 13th all-time with nine career goals, scoring her fifth goal of the season in the win over VMI (9/30). The goal added two points to her career total, giving her 21, which moves her up into a tie for 15th. Arroyo is also tied for seventh with three career game-winning goals. Roth and Richard both moved up into a tie for 11th all-time with five assists for their careers at The Citadel.

RANKING THIS SEASON INDIVIDUALLY
Dix has a team-leading seven goals and 17 points (7 goals, 3 assists) on the year. Her seven goals scored this year are tied for 10th most in program history, while her 17 points on the year have her tied for 12th. Richard has five assists on the year, which ranks tied for fifth in program history. Roth and Mikoy both bring four assists into the weekend, a mark that has them tied for seventh in program history for assists in a single campaign.

FRESHMEN RISING THROUGH THE RANKS
Three freshmen have risen through the ranks for freshman class records this season. Bradshaw is tied for 14th all-time for goals scored by a freshman with four. Her next goal will move her into a tie for ninth. Mikoy finds herself tied for third all-time with four assists. Her next assist will move her into a tie for second for assists by a freshman. Mason is just behind Mikoy with two assists already on the year, a mark that has her tied for 10th.

THE HISTORY WITH WESTERN CAROLINA
Western Carolina holds a 15-1-1 all-time SoCon record over The Citadel. The lone Bulldog win came in 2010 when the 'Dogs won 2-1 in Cullowhee. The year before, the two program worked to a 0-0, double-overtime draw, also in Cullowhee.

SCOUTING The CATAMOUNTS
Western Carolina enters the weekend with a 6-7-2 overall record, including a 3-4 mark in SoCon action. The Catamounts have dropped four of their last five games, including at home against ETSU, at Chattanooga, at Samford and at home versus UNCG. The Catamounts most recently won, 1-0, over VMI on Sunday, Oct. 14. Eleven different Catamounts have scored this season with only two, Reily Nelson and Regan Ward, having scored multiple goals. Nelson leads the team with three goals scored and two assists for eight points, while Ward boasts two goals scored and an assist for five points. Mackenzie Wright has taken a team-high 18 shots with only three being on frame, while Julia Winter leads the team with eight shots on goal. Between the pipes, Jacquelyn Gnassi and Natalia Icen have split time with Gnassi making eight starts in nine appearances while Icen has made six starts in seven appearances. Gnassi brings a 1.02 goals against average into the weekend with 33 saves, while Icen boasts a 1.75 goals against average and 30 saves.

THE HISTORY WITH ETSU
ETSU is 8-0-1 all-time over The Citadel. The lone draw in the series acme during the 2004 season when the two programs worked to a 2-2, double-overtime draw.

SCOUTING The BUCS
After starting the season off by dropping seven of their first eight games, the Buccaneers of ETSU have gone 6-2 since opening Southern Conference play with their two losses coming at top-ranked Samford and at Chattanooga. The Bucs have averaged 1.62 goals per game with 50.3% of their shot attempts being on frame. Eleonora Goldoni and Sarah Connolly lead the team with seven goals scored each, but Goldoni has one more point as she has three assists. Rachel Harbin boasts a team-high five assists. Goldoni, Connolly, Harbin, Isabel Hodgson and Fiona Dodge have all scored multiple goals on the year. Goldoni leads the team with 38 shots taken and 19 shots on goal. Goldoni, Connolly and Hodgson all have two game-winners. In goal, Lea Ann Cutshall has seen the most action between the pipes, starting all 16 games with a 1.53 goals against average complimented by 92 saves.
