RENO, NV. – The Citadel wrestling team took sixth place out of 25 teams at the Reno Tournament of Champions this Thursday.  
 
Sawyer Root led the Bulldogs after going 4-1 on the weekend and placing third in the 197-weight bracket. Root began the tournament by securing a 4-0 decision over Josh Hokit of Fresno State. Root would then take back-to-back victories by major decision. Root finished his day in Reno with a loss against Cale Davidson of Wyoming in a close 6-4 decision. 
 
Rian Burris placed sixth in the tournament, tallying a 5-1 record on the day. His only loss of the day came at the hands of Jake Tucker of Michigan State. Burris would go on to secure five victories, recording one pin, one technical fall, one sudden victory and two decisions. 
 
At the 165-weight class, freshman Dazjon Casto went 4-2 and picked up a sixth-place finish. Casto began the day with a pin in 1:21 over Bryce Flickner who wrestled unattached. He took a 7-3 decision over Logan Ritchie of Michigan State while also defeating Jacob Curling of Old Dominion in a 11-4 decision. 
 
"We are happy with the results from Reno and finishing sixth as a team shows that we are greatly improving as the season goes on. It's always good to have some consistency with Sawyer but it's nice to see some other guys stepping up. " said head coach Rob Hjerling.

The Citadel wrestling team will travel to Chattanooga on Jan. 1-2  to participate in the Southern Scuffle.
