Bulldogs Host Longwood Saturday in Final Non-Conference Game of Season

CHARLESTON, S.C. –
 The Citadel men's basketball team play one final non-conference game before jumping back into Southern Conference action next weekend. The Citadel hosts Longwood for the first time in program history on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 1 p.m.

NEXT UP
The 'Dogs will jump back into league play with a road trip to the Upstate. The Bulldogs will take on Wofford on Thursday, Jan. 3 before traveling to 24th-ranked Furman on Saturday, Jan. 5.

ON THIS DATE IN CITADEL BASKETBALL HISTORY
The Citadel is 6-12 all-time on Dec. 29. The Bulldogs boast wins over BYU (1960), Air Force (1971), Navy (1973), UNCG (1993) and Coastal Carolina (2001).

FAST START UNDER BAUCOM
The Bulldogs improved to 9-2 on the year with the win over Campbell, marking the best start through 11 games since the 1979-80 team.

WINNING BEFORE CHRISTMAS
The Bulldogs' nine wins following the Campbell game are the most wins before Christmas by a Bulldog team in program history. The 2016-17 and 1964-65 teams both won seven games before Christmas.

STREAKING
The current seven-game winning streak is the longest since the 2008-09 team under Ed Conroy rattled off 11 straight wins from Jan. 22 – Feb. 26, 2009.

UNDEFEATED AT HOME
The 6-0 start at home is the best start for The Citadel since the 2004-05 team started off the season 8-0 at home. The 2001-02 team started the year off 10-0 at home, the 1988-89 team started off 6-0 at home, the 1984-85 team went a perfect 14-0 at home on the year, the 1981-82 team started the year off 7-0 at home and the 1973-74 team started the home schedule 6-0.

THE BULLDOGS NATIONALLY
The Citadel ranks in the top 50 in NCAA Division I in 10 statistical categories, including leading the nation in scoring (99.5 points per game) and 3-pointers made per game (14.1). The 'Dogs are third in 3-point field goal attempts (406), fourth in total 3-pointers made (155), seventh in assists per game (19.1), 10th in defensive rebounds per game (30.73), 18th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.50) and field goal percentage (.497), tied for 28th in total assists (210), 48th in 3-point field goal percentage (.382).

STALLWORTH NATIONALLY
Lew Stallworth enters the weekend ninth in the nation with an average of 6.9 assists per game, tied for 22nd with 76 totals assists, tied for 30th with five double-doubles and tied for 44th in field goal percentage (.583).

FRIERSON NATIONALLY
Matt Frierson enters the weekend first in all of NCAA Division I with an average of 5.09 3-pointers made per game, second with 56 3-pointers made, sixth with 120 3-point field goal attempts and 19th in 3-point field goal percentage (.467).

STALLWORTH NAMED COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS SOCON PLAYER OF THE WEEK
For the third time this season, Stallworth was named the College Sports Madness Southern Conference Player of the Week, the publication released Monday morning. Stallworth was also named the College Sports Madness SoCon Player of the Week on Nov. 26 and Dec. 3, and he has twice been named the SoCon Player of the Week by the league office (Nov. 27, Dec. 4). A graduate transfer from Los Angeles, California, Stallworth helped guide the Bulldogs to an 82-76 road win over Campbell last week, marking the first ever victory over the Camels in Buies Creek, North Carolina and the first win in the series for The Citadel since the 1982-83 season. In the win over the Camels, Stallworth recorded his fifth double-double of the season, and the sixth of his career, and was just three assists away from notching the program's first-ever triple double. He has been close to the mark seven times this season. Stallworth finished the game with 21 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists to go along with two steals. He shot 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from the field and went 7-for-10 (.700) at the free throw line, including 5-of-8 (.625) in the final 1:15 of regulation. Stallworth is currently in the top 10 in the Southern Conference in eight statistical categories, including leading the league in assists per game, second for total assists and tied for third for double-doubles. He is also fourth in field goal percentage, tied for fifth with 17.5 points per game, sixth for assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2), ninth for free throw percentage (.679) and 10th with 6.5 rebounds per game.

BEATING CAMPBELL
The win over Campbell is the first for The Citadel since the 1982-83 team beat the Camels 68-50 on Jan. 8, 1983. It is also the first-ever win for the 'Dogs in Buies Creek.

MILESTONE WIN FOR COACH BAUCOM
The win over Campbell was the 230th of head coach Duggar Baucom's head coaching career.

NAJDAWI BREAKING INTO THE TOP 10 IN REBOUNDING
With his 13 rebounds against Campbell, Zane Najdawi moved up into the top 10 in program history for total rebounds. He now has 591 career boards and sits tenth all time. He is just two rebounds out of ninth.

FRIERSON KEEPING THE STREAK ALIVE
Frierson connected on a game-high five 3-pointers at Campbell, giving him 276 made treys for his career. He is just 19 away from Zach Urbanus' program record for career 3-pointers made. Frierson has now converted at least one 3-pointer in 49 straight games. He has made at least four treys in 34 games, including each of the last six games.

THE HISTORY WITH LONGWOOD
The game against Longwood will mark the first meeting between the two programs on the hardwood.

SCOUTING THE LANCERS
After starting the season with four straight wins, including two on the road, Longwood has gone 5-5 since mid-November to sit with a 9-5 record, including 2-4 on the road. The Lancers boast road wins over Richmond and Maryland Eastern Shore as well as home wins over VMI and Stetson. The Lancers are currently averaging 67.6 points per game while holding opponents to 62.2 points per outing. The Lancers have eclipsed the 70-point mark five times this season and have scored 50 or fewer points twice, including netting just 39 in a 42-39 loss at Charlotte. Longwood has connected on 41.9 percent of its shot attempts while the opposition has made 38.2 percent of their attempts. Longwood comes into Saturday's game averaging 9.4 3-pointers and 38.1 rebounds per contest. Longwood has been led by four players averaging double-digit points, but only Shabooty Phillips and JaShaun Smith have played all 14 games of the quartet. Isaiah Walton has played in six games, making four starts, and made his return to the court in the home win over Stetson after missing eight games. After sitting out the first 11 games of the season, Jaylon Wilson has played in each of the last three games, including making two starts. Walton averages 16.8 points per game with Phillips averaging 13.6 points, Smith averaging 11.1 points and Wilson averaging 10.7 points per game. Damarion Geter has started seven of the 12 games he has appeared in and leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per game and 12 blocks. Three players led by Phillips have made at least 20 3-pointers. Phillips leads the way with 31, an average of 2.2 per contest, while Smith has connected on 22 of his treys and Sean Flood has made 21. Only five players, including Phillips, Smith, Jordan Cintron, Spencer Franklin and Pernell Adgei, have played in all 14 games with Phillips and Smith having started all 14. Adgei has eight starts to his credit this season, while Flood, Cintron and Geter have all made seven starts.
