DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Citadel Bulldogs suffered a tough injury in the opening match to senior
Ty Buckiso that would set the tone early in 25-15 loss to SoCon foe Davidson on Thursday night. Davidson (2-9, 1-5 SoCon) picks up its first SoCon win of the season, while the Bulldogs (1-9, 0-4) continue to search for the elusive win.
Buckiso appeared to be setting the table for the Dogs with a 6-0 lead over Davidson's Will Baldwin, but suffered an injury late in the second period and had to retire in an early swing in the match.
The Citadel's
Rian Burris would snag a 6-2 decision at 157 to give the Bulldogs their first win, but the Wildcats would win the next three matches to take a 17-3 lead.
Sawyer Root would grab a 5-4 decision at 197 pounds over Konner Pritchard and Michael McAleavy won at 285 over Will Cooley to give the Bulldogs a shot heading into the final three matches, but The Citadel would get no closer.
Nicholas Long's fall at 1:22 over Zamir Ode at 133 was the best win of the night for the Bulldogs, coming in the final match.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday night at Gardner-Webb. The match begins at 7 p.m.
