
Track & Field Wraps up Weems Baskin Invitational with Strong Performances

COLUMBIA, S.C. -Â The Bulldog track & field teams competed in the Weems Baskin Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina this weekend.Â

"We had a very good opening meet with some great times and distances for so early in the season," said head coach Jody Huddleston. "We are excited to keep the momentum going at the Wofford Relays next weekend, especially when we add the freshmen into the mix since they were unavailable this weekend for Recognition Day."

Sophomore David McDonald started the Bulldogs off strong, placing fourth in the javelin throw with a new personal record of 47.35 meters on day one. The Bulldogs men's 4x300 team of Devin Singleton, Josiah Johnson, Clarence Richardson and Malik Diggs followed that up with a third-place finish, breaking the school record with a time of 2:18.27.

Jamie Cunningham ran a new personal best in the 5k, 15:08.66 earning him the number-nine spot all time in program history.

For the women's team, Hannah Murray, Jordan Neeley, Summer Thompson and Kaeleigh Guth ran a school record of 2:59.92 to finish eighth in the 4x300. Guth also hit her PR mark in the long jump with 17-8.25 to earn the number-four spot in school history.Â

Senior Mady Riegel finished fifth in the invitational javelin with a toss of 135-4m. Jessy Page took second place in the open discus with a mark of 139-2. Â

The Bulldogs will travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina, this Friday, March 30 to participate in the Wofford Relays.
