CHARLESTON, S.C. – South Carolina scored seven runs in the top of the seventh and used the offensive burst to defeat The Citadel 12-1 at Joe Riley Park Tuesday night in the second game of a home-and-home series.
The Gamecocks (19-14) used 13 hits to secure the win while the Bulldogs (12-20) recorded three hits on the evening.
South Carolina scored two runs in each of the third and fourth innings and added another in the sixth.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Bryce Leasure drew a one-out walk and advanced to second when
Jonathan Sabo followed suit.
Ben Peden then singled through the left side to score Leasure and set the score at 5-1 in favor of the Gamecocks.
The Gamecocks then tacked on seven runs off six hits and an error in the top of the next frame.
Sabo (L, 0-1) made his first collegiate start on the mound Tuesday night, giving the Bulldogs four innings that saw him scatter five hits and four earned runs while striking out a season-high three batters.
Ian Foggo pitched the last out of the seventh and the entire eighth inning while striking out three batters.
Carmen Miodzinski (W, 1-3) earned his first win of the season as he pitched five frames of scoreless ball, giving up just two hits and a ball compared to fanning five batters.
