CHARLESTON, S.C. – Four former Citadel baseball players are continuing their baseball careers in professional baseball. Left handers
James Reeves and
JP Sears are currently in the New York Yankees organization, while right hander
Austin Mason is in the Arizona Diamondbacks system and right hander Asher Wojciechowski is with the Baltimore Orioles.
Reeves, who was selected by the Yankees in the 10
th round in 2015, is currently pitching for the Double A Trenton Thunder. On the season, Reeves is 1-1 with a 2.20 ERA in 23 relief appearances. He has allowed just 20 hits and struck out 59 over 41 innings pitched. Reeves has not allowed a run in nine of last 10 appearances.
Earlier this month, Reeves was selected to participate the Eastern League All-Star Game. He entered the game in the sixth inning and retired the only batter he faced on three pitches with a groundout to first. The game would end in a 4-4 tie.
Sears, who was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 11
th round in 2017, was traded to the Yankees on Nov. 18, 2017. He was assigned to the Charleston River Dogs and is back pitching on the mound at Joe P. Riley Park. Sears, who is currently on the 7-day disabled list, is 1-5 with a 2.67 ERA. In 11 appearances, 10 starts, Sears has allowed just 38 hits and struck out 54 in his 54 innings of work.
Sears' best outing of the season came on May 17 when he held the Columbia Fireflies to just one hit in seven shutout innings. He has allowed three earned runs or less in all 10 starts on the season.
Mason, who was taken by the Diamondbacks in the 17
th round in 2015, is currently playing for the Vasalia Rawhide of the Class A Advanced California League. He has appeared in 29 games for the Rawhide, with 28 appearances coming out of the bullpen. He is 2-5 with a 4.74 ERA.
Mason was called up to Triple A Reno on June 26 and made one start for the Aces. In that one appearance, Mason allowed just two hits in two shutout innings of work.
Wojciechowski, who was a compensatory pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2010, is currently in the Baltimore Orioles organization pitching for the Triple A Norfolk Tides.
He has appeared in 19 games, making 12 starts, and is 5-4 with a 3.51 ERA. He has struck out 89 over his 84.2 innings of work. In his last start against the Gwinnett Stripers, Wojciechowski allowed just one run and struck out eight over eight innings in a no decision. That performance came on the heels of a career-best 12-strikeout performance in a win against the Durham Bulls.
