CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team opens the 2018 campaign with a neutral-site game against Mississippi Valley State on Aug. 17 at 3 p.m. The game will be played in Macon, Georgia on the campus of Mercer. The Bulldogs will then play host to North Florida at WLI Field on Aug. 19 at 1 p.m. The game against the Ospreys will be carried on ESPN+.

Friday will mark the first-ever meeting between The Citadel and Mississippi Valley State on the soccer pitch. The Devilettes went 7-11-1 last season, bowing out of the Southwestern Athletics Conference (SWAC) Tournament in the first round.

The team is under a new head coach as Sean Mapson, who was scheduled to coach the team for a third year, joined the staff at Idaho. In the interim, MVSU has turned to Rohan Naraine, a coach with over 20 years of collegiate, professional and high school coaching experience. Naraine compiled a record of 48-29-7 and collected a pair of Big South Conference championships at Coastal Carolina in four years (2006-09) with stops at Coker, Southern, St. Andrews, Arkansas Pine Bluff and Thomas also to his credit.

The Citadel and North Florida have met on the pitch three times prior to Sunday's home opener at Washington Light Infantry (WLI) Field with the Ospreys having claimed victories in all three games. The last time these two met in Charleston, UNF won 2-1 on Sept. 7, 2014. Last season, UNF won 2-0 in Jacksonville, Florida.

The UNF Ospreys went 9-6-1 last season, bowing out of the ASUN Tournament in the first round. The Ospreys rattled off five wins in a row to end August and begin September. UNF is coached by fifth-year head coach Robin Confer. Confer has led UNF to a record of 24-38-6 in four seasons. In 2018, UNF returns 10 players who played at least 14 games, including six who played in every game. The Ospreys return Rhiannon Conelley who started all 16 games in goal as well as Thais Reiss who led the team with six goals, including three game winners. Conelley boasted a goals against average (GAA) of 1.14 last season with 57 saves to her credit. The redshirt sophomore collected seven shutouts. The Ospreys benefit from six players who scored at least one goal in 2017, including senior forward Krista Colubiale, who was second on the team a year ago with three goals scored and a pair of assists.
