CHARLESTON, S.C. –
This week, The Citadel women's soccer team will take part in two Battle of the Bulldogs, both on the road. The Citadel will first travel the short distance up I-26 to Orangeburg for a midweek game at South Carolina State on Wednesday, Aug. 29 before heading further up I-26 to Asheville, North Carolina on Sunday, Sept. 2. The game in Orangeburg is slated for a 7 p.m. first kick while Sunday's game in Asheville will feature a 2 p.m. kickoff and will be streamed live on ESPN+.

THE CITADEL SCORING GOALS IN THE FIRST FOUR GAMES
Through the first four games, The Citadel has scored 12 goals and has scored multiple goals in each game. The 12 goals are the most scored by a Bulldog team since the 2009 squad tallied 19 goals through the first four contests of that season, including a program-record 14 in the season opener against Alabama A&M. Prior to this season, the Bulldogs had never scored multiple goals in all four of the first four contests of a season. The 2016 squad had multiple goals in three of the first four games while six other Bulldog teams registered multiple goals in two of the first four games.

BULLDOGS IN THE NATIONAL STANDINGS
Heading into this week's games, three Bulldogs are currently in the top 25 in the nation for individual statistics. Forward Katherine Arroyo is tied for fifth in the nation with four goals on the young season while freshman Kessy Bradshaw is tied for 25th with three goals scored. Fellow freshman Mel Mikoy is currently tied for 17th in the nation with three assists on the year.

ARROYO MOVING UP CAREER MARKS LIST
With her goal in the first half Sunday at Presbyterian, Arroyo moved up a spot in The Citadel record book, moving into a tie for 14th with Jessa Scott (2007-08) with eight career goals. She now has 19 career points, a mark that moves her into sole possession of 16th in program history.

FRESHMEN ALREADY RISING THROUGH THE RANKS
Just four games into the season, three freshmen are already rising through the ranks for freshman class records. Bradshaw is already tied for 15th all-time for goals scored by a freshman with three. Her next goal will move her into a tie for 14th. Mikoy already finds herself tied for sixth all-time with three assists. Her next assist will move her into a tie for third for assists by a freshman. Emily Mason is just behind Mikoy with two assists already on the year, a mark that has her tied for 10th.

KOOBA SCORING GOALS
Kooba Richard's goal in the second half of Sunday's game at Presbyterian was the first of the season for the midfield graduate transfer from Belmont Abbey. She now has nine career collegiate goals, including eight while with the Crusaders.

THE HISTORY WITH SOUTH CAROLINA STATE
Wednesday's game at South Carolina State will mark the 14th meeting between the two Bulldog programs. The Citadel owns a commanding 12-0-1 lead over S.C. State with the lone tie coming in 2011 when the two programs worked to a 0-0, double-overtime draw in Orangeburg. That game was also the last time the two teams met in Orangeburg with the last two games being played in Charleston.

SCOUTING The BULLDOGS FROM ORANGEBURG
The Bulldogs of South Carolina State enter Wednesday's game 0-3 on the year, with all three contests having been played on the road. Through the first three contests, S.C. State has been out-scored 11-3, including a 5-1 loss at VMI in the second game of the campaign. The Bulldogs, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Sandra Burris, have had three different goal scorers this season. Jamey Thomas, Justine Zepeda and Katelyn Lauziere have each netted one goal on the year with Brandy Vaca assisting on two of the goals. Tamika Aguilar also has an assist. S.C. State has steadily taken more shots each game, starting the season with four shots (two on goal) in the first game, five in the second and 12 (four on goal) in the most recent game.

THE HISTORY WITH UNC ASHEVILLE
Sunday's game in Asheville will be just the fourth meeting between the two programs on the soccer pitch. UNC Asheville holds a slight 2-1 advantage in the all-time series after The Citadel claimed the last meeting 2-0 in 2016. The first two games, both claimed by the Asheville Bulldogs, were held at Greenwood Field in Asheville, while the most recent meeting was contested in Charleston.

SCOUTING The BULLDOGS FROM ASHEVILLE
UNC Asheville enters the week with a 0-2-1 record under first-year head coach Lindsay Vera. All three of the Bulldogs' games have been on the road, including at Wofford to start the regular season, at Western Carolina and at North Florida. After starting the season with a 1-1, double-overtime draw against the Terriers, the Bulldogs have been shut out in the most recent two games. UNC Asheville will host Delaware on Friday, Aug. 31 before turning focus to The Citadel. Justine James recorded the Bulldogs' lone goal on the season and has taken two shots, as have Gillian Oyos and Skylar Chillson. Chillson, Ellie Stone, Grace Kwiatkowski, Emily Duenas and Alice Walker have each started all three games. UNC Asheville has utilized three different goalkeepers, one for each game.

COMING UP FOR THE CITADEL
Following the road games this week, The Citadel Bulldogs return home for a three-game homestand, which will also mark the final non-conference games of the 2018 campaign. The 'Dogs will first welcome Bob Jones to Washington Light Field on Friday, Sept. 7, with Hampton coming to town on Sunday, Sept. 9. The Bulldogs close out the non-conference portion of the schedule with a game on Friday, Sept. 14 against the Dolphins of Jacksonville.
