Weekend Preview: Women’s Soccer Returns Home for Games Against UNCG, VMI

CHARLESTON, S.C. –
The Citadel women's soccer team opens a three-game homestand this week with a pair of games at Washington Light Infantry Field. The Citadel will first welcome UNCG to Charleston for a 3 p.m. kickoff on Friday, Sept. 28 before long-time rival VMI comes to town. The battle with the Keydets is slated for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30.

BULLDOGS MOVING UP CAREER LISTS
Logan Dix, Katherine Arroyo and Hannah Roth have all made moves up various career lists already this season. Dix most recently moved up into a tie for 12th all-time with nine career goals as she has six so far this season and also moved up into a tie for 12th for career points with 23, including 15 so far this year. Her six goals scored on the year rank just outside the top 10 in program history for goals scored in a single season while her 15 points this season has her currently tied for 15th in program history for points in a single season. Arroyo is currently tied for 15th in program history with eight career goals and is 17th in career points with 19. She is also tied for 10th with two game-winning goals. Roth moved up into a tie for 11th all-time with five assists for her career. He four assists so far this season are tied for sixth-most by a Bulldog in a single season.

KELLY B MAKING THE SAVE
In the Bulldogs' game at Chattanooga on Sunday, Sept. 23, graduate transfer goalkeeper Kelly Brahmbhatt made 11 saves between the pipes, marking the first double-digit saves outing for The Citadel since Kaeley Johnston and Logan Leask combined forces to make 13 saves at home against Furman last season on Oct. 1, 2017. It was the first double-digit save outing by a single Bulldogs since Leask had 10 saves twice in 2016, first at home against Jacksonville State (Sept. 18) and again at Samford (Oct. 2). The 11 saves by Brahmbhatt were the most by one Bulldog keeper since Abby Koger recorded 14 saves on the road at UNC Asheville on Aug. 21, 2015. The 11 saves were also one off Brahmbhatt's personal high of 12 set last season when Southern Miss played against Charlotte on Oct. 14.

KELLY B BETWEEN THE PIPES
Brahmbhatt has amassed 36 saves already this season giving her 54 for her college career between Southern Miss and The Citadel. She is 11-8-3 in goal, including 6-4-3 at Southern Miss and 5-4 with the Bulldogs.

FRESHMEN ALREADY RISING THROUGH THE RANKS
Three freshmen are rising through the ranks for freshman class records. Kessy Bradshaw is tied for 15th all-time for goals scored by a freshman with three. Her next goal will move her into a tie for 14th. Mel Mikoy finds herself tied for sixth all-time with three assists. Her next assist will move her into a tie for third for assists by a freshman. Emily Mason is just behind Mikoy with two assists already on the year, a mark that has her tied for 10th.

THE HISTORY WITH UNCG
The Citadel and UNCG have met 17 times on the soccer pitch with the Spartans winning all 17 meetings.

SCOUTING The SPARTANS
The Spartans have started the season 6-2-1, including 1-0 in Southern Conference action, and are 3-0-1 on the road. UNCG received five first-place votes in the preseason coaches poll and were just one point behind Samford for tops in the league. Eight different Spartans have scored this season led by Cienna Rideout's seven goals in seven games. She also leads the team with 15 points, including one assist, 23 shots, 13 shots on goal and three game-winning goals. Kaley Tucker is second on the team with three goals scored and eight points, including two assists. Quiqui Hita is second on the team with 15 shots. Hita, Nicole Souply and Isabelle Blomdahl all have two goals scored with two of Souply's being game-winners. Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper has appeared in all nine games, playing just over 803 minutes between the pipes. She has two solo shutouts and two combined shutouts with a 0.90 goals against average and 33 saves.

THE HISTORY WITH VMI
The Keydets enter the weekend with a 7-3 record over The Citadel on the soccer pitch. The Bulldogs won the first two meetings in 2004 and 2005, but VMI has claimed the last four meetings, including a 1-0 decision in Lexington last season. Sunday's game will be just the fifth meeting in Charleston.

SCOUTING The KEYDETS
The Keydets are 6-1-1 on the year, including 3-0-1 on the road, but they are 0-1 in SoCon action after dropping their SoCon opener 4-0 to UNCG. Five Keydets have scored multiple goals on the year led by Sierra Brewer's four goals. Brewer is tied with Julianne Knoblett for tops on the team with two game-winning goals. Kiley Cropper has taken the most shots (31) on the team with 18 being on frame. Ceci Keppeler has seen action between the pipes in all eight games, playing close to 700 minutes. She has allowed just four goals for a goals against average of 0.53 to go with 24 saves and five solo shutouts.

COMING UP
Next weekend, the Bulldogs will open the month of October by hosting Mercer at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5. The Citadel will then be off before traveling to Furman on Thursday, Oct. 11.
