CHARLESTON, S.C. – After playing three tough road games, The Citadel women's soccer team returns home this week to begin a three-game homestand at Washington Light Infantry Field. The three home tilts will represent the final three non-conference games before the Southern Conference schedule opens up on the road on Friday, Sept. 21. This week, the Bulldogs will be focused on Bob Jones (Friday, Sept. 7 at 4 p.m.) and Hampton (Sunday, Sept. 9 at 12 p.m.).
SCORING GOALS IN THE FIRST SIX GAMES
Through the first six games, The Citadel has scored 16 goals and has scored multiple goals in each game. The 16 goals are the most scored by a Bulldog team since the 2009 squad tallied 20 goals through the first six contests of that season, including a program-record 14 in the season opener against Alabama A&M. Prior to this year, the Bulldogs had never scored multiple goals in each of the first six contests of a season.
THE CITADEL IN THE NATIONAL STANDINGS
Heading into this weekend's pair of home games, The Citadel women's soccer team is ranked in the top-26 in four statistical categories. The Bulldogs are tied for 15th in all of NCAA Division I with 16 goals scored and are tied for 18th in the nation with 13 assists. The Bulldogs are also tied for 20th with 45 combined points and are tied for 26th with 2.67 goals per game.
INDIVIDUAL BULLDOGS IN THE NATIONAL STANDINGS
Heading into this week's games, four different Bulldogs are currently in the top-50 in the nation for various statistical categories.
Katherine Arroyo is currently tied for 15th in the nation with two game-winning goals and is also tied for 32nd with four goals scored.
Logan Dix is tied for 24th in the nation in shot accuracy (.750) while
Mel Mikoy is tied for 34th with three assists. Goalkeeper
Kelly Brahmbhatt, who has played every minute so far between the pipes, is tied for 44th in the nation for minutes played in goal (541:02).
IT'S A TAKE OVER!
On Sunday, Sept. 9, the Bulldogs will be heavily featured on the NCAA's soccer Instagram account as The Citadel takes part in an Instagram Takeover. The takeover will feature the team sharing an inside look at the program throughout the day as well as a question and answer segment following the home game with Hampton.
THE HISTORY WITH BOB JONES
Friday will mark the first-ever meeting between The Citadel and Bob Jones on the soccer pitch in a game that counts for both sides.
CONNECTION TO BOB JONES
The president of Bob Jones University,
Steve Pettit is a 1978 graduate of The Citadel. Pettit played soccer for the Bulldogs from 1974-77, graduating in May of 1978 with a degree in business administration.
SCOUTING The BRUINS
The Bruins are members of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division II and enter the weekend with an 0-2-1 record. The Bruins are coached by
Dr. Chris Carmichael, who has led the program to four national championships, including each of the last two seasons.
Bailey Martin leads the team with two goals scored on the year, both PKs, for four points off just four shots.
Ali Sigmon and
Kayla Romeiser each have one goal scored while Sigmon has added an assist for three points. In goal,
Sarah Lloyd has seen action in all three games, making 19 saves with a 3.35 goals against average while
Angelina Martin started one game and made seven saves to go along with a 0.00 goals against average.
THE HISTORY WITH HAMPTON
The Bulldogs are 2-0 all-time against Hampton, including a 5-3 win in the season opener last season. The Citadel has out-scored the Pirates 7-3 between the two contests, including a 2-0 win on Oct. 21, 2016.
SCOUTING The PIRATES
The Pirates enter the weekend with a 1-2 record on the year, including a 3-0 win over Saint Peter's and a 2-0 loss to VMI in the season opener. Last season, Hampton went 3-8-1 with wins over Mount Olive, Lincoln (Pa.) and Lincoln Memorial. Four different Pirates of scored the team's goal this season with
Sydney Jackson notching an assist to go along with her goal for a team-leading three points. Both Jackson and
Kynnedy Waldon have taken a team-high three shots and Waldon boasts the game-winner over Saint Peter's.
COMING UP
Following Sundays' game versus Hampton, the Bulldogs will host the Dolphins of Jacksonville on Friday, Sept. 14. Kickoff of the final non-conference game of the season will be at 3 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
