Bulldogs Bounce Back with 4-0 Victory Over Bob Jones

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team returned home to Washington Light Infantry Field Friday afternoon and bounced back with a 4-0 win over Bob Jones. Four different Bulldogs scored the four goals with Logan Dix leading the charge with three points off a goal and an assist. Hannah Roth recorded her first career game-winning goal in the 17th minute to open the scoring.

  • 16:55 – Hannah Roth took a ball from Hannah Dion and put a shot on frame. The Bob Jones keeper made the save, but the rebounded ball rolled right back to Roth who put the ball into the net for the score.
  • 22:58 – Emily Mason scored her first career goal off a pass from Maria Contreras. Mason played the ball backwards to Contreras, who fed it right back to Mason. Mason made a defender miss and finished, putting the Bulldogs up 2-0.
  • 79:47 – Contreras once again had the assist as she played the ball to Dion who sent a cross into the box. Dix was there for the finish.
  • 80:39 – Not a minute later, Dix sent a corner kick into the box where Mel Mikoy jumped into the air and put a one-touch goal together.

How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs came out aggressive and hungry from the get-go, logging shot after shot.
  • In the 17th minute, Roth, who tallied a game-high eight shots, finally broke through with her third goal of the season.
  • Mason tacked on the insurance goal in the 23rd minute, and the Bulldogs never looked back.
  • At one time, the Bulldogs had as many as eight freshmen on the field as 20 players saw game action.
  • The Bulldogs took 41 shots, including 20 on frame while the Bruins managed just four shots, three in the first half.
  • Kaeley Johnston improved to 5-4 in her collegiate career as she logged just under 80 minutes between the pipes, making a pair of saves. Johnston and freshman Maddie Somogyi combined forces to record the second shutout of the season.

Notables
  • The 41 shots by the Bulldogs are one shy of the program record of 42 set on Aug. 30, 2009, in a14-0 win over Alabama State. The 41 shots are second-most in program history.
  • The 20 shots on goal are tied for second all-time for shots taken on frame. The record is 26, also set in the 2009 win over Alabama State.
  • Hannah Roth has now scored three goals this season, giving her five for her collegiate career. Friday marked her first game-winning goal as a Bulldog.
  • Logan Dix is now tied with Katherine Arroyo for tops on the team with four goals on the season, but Dix leads the team with 11 points off her four goals and three assists.
  • The Bulldogs have now scored multiple goals in each of their first seven games, marking the first time in program history that has been accomplished.
  • The Bulldogs' five wins on the year matches the win total in each of the last two seasons.
  • The Bulldogs improved to 3-0 at home, marking the second year in a row the 'Dogs have won their first three games at WLI Field. The 2014 squad also accomplished the feat while the 2013 team earned five positive results in the first five games at home, marking the best start to a home campaign in program history.
