JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Citadel men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2019 Southern Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday morning. Both squads finished 10
th, with young runners leading the way for the men.

Location: Pine Oaks Golf Course (Johnson City, Tenn.)
Women's Distance: 5,000 meters (5K)
Men's Distance: 8,000 meters (8K)
WOMEN'S RACE
- Junior Amber Opp led the way for the Bulldog women, finishing 26th with a time of 19:26.0.
- Freshman Heidi Fortin was second on the team with a 48th-place time of 20:13.4.
- Junior Casey Miller finished third on the team with a time of 20:47.8.
- Freshman Grace Wolfe placed fourth on the team with a time of 21:07.7.
- Senior Jordan Neeley finished fifth on the squad with a 22:21.4.
- Fellow senior Daniela Sanchez-Martinez finished right behind Neeley with a time of 22:31.3.
- Junior Kenslee Padgett rounded out the Bulldogs' roster with a time of 23:38.9.
- Furman claimed their seventh-straight team title by taking second through fifth individually.
- Wofford's Hannah Steelman claimed the individual title with a time of 17:02.1.
MEN'S RACE
- Freshmen led the way for the Bulldog men with Sam Sharnas, Billy Eggers and Ty Duben claiming the top three spots on the squad.
- Sharnas finished 48th overall with a time of 28:12.6.
- Eggers finished second on the team with a time of 28:52.0.
- Duben wrapped up the 8K in a time of 28:53.2.
- Sophomore Lane Johnson was fourth on the squad with a time of 29:15.0.
- Freshman Andrew Smith finished fifth on the team with a time of 29:19.5.
- Junior Jeremy Shipley wrapped up his morning with a time of 29:55.5.
- Senior Eric Avalos completed the scoring seven with a time of 31:23.3.
- Furman's men claimed their seventh straight team title by taking the top two spots, and four of the top five.
- Furman's Ryan Adams took home the individual title with a time of 24:40.8.
COMING UP
The Bulldogs will next race in the 2019 NCAA Southeast Regionals hosted by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia on Friday, Nov. 15.
