Wrestling Set to Host Senior Day Against Campbell

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel wrestling team will host Campbell University this Sunday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. The dual will begin with the honoring of the team's two seniors, Paddy Kearney and Sawyer Root.

Last weekend, The Citadel placed fourth as a team in the All Academy Championship with five wrestlers picking up top-three finishes.

Sawyer Root took second place at 197 and tallied 12 team points for the Bulldogs while recording his first pin of the year.

At 285 pounds, Michael McAleavey placed second and picked up 11 team points with a sudden victory and a pin.

Dazjon Casto finished the tournament in second place at 165 pounds after dropping his final match to No. 27 ranked,Tanner Skidgel of Navy. Casto lost the final match by one point, due to riding time in Skidgel's favor.

Senior Paddy Kearney placed third and scored 7.5 team points. Kearney battled back after dropping his second match of the competition and picked up a win in the consolation semifinals to put him into the third-place match.

Freshman, Chon Porter took home third place in his first All Academy appearance at 149 pounds, picking up wins over Army and SoCon opponent, VMI.

The Camels were recently ranked No. 10 as a team by the NWCA Mid-Major Poll while three wrestlers were ranked in the NCAA Coaches Poll.Campbell has yet to be beaten this year and sits at 1-0 in the Southern Conference.

The Bulldogs' last victory against Campbell came in 2015 when they defeated them at home by a final score of 45-3.

Senior day events will begin prior to the first match up and will honor Root and Kearney.

The next match for The Citadel will be Feb. 8 as they travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee to take on the Mocs.
