Track and Field Combines for Seventeen Top Ten Finishes

RESULTS

CHARLESTON, S.C. -
The Bulldog's track and field teams shattered previous school records in the USC Open this Saturday. The team's combined for 17 top-ten performances in the competition.

For The Men
  • Sam Blumer broke the school record set previously in 2013 by David Melton in the vault with a leap of 15-7.25. Blumer took second collegiately in the competition.
  • Josiah Johnson finished first in the 300m with a time of 34.83 while breaking the record of 35.17 by Charles Watson in 2000.
  • Stephan Kulick took first collegiately in the 600m with a time of 1:22.72 which broke the record of 1:25.17 set by Frank Dioguardi in 2010. 
  • Devon Merrick set a new personal record in the vault with 14-11.5 to take fourth and earn the number three spot all time.
  • Ja'Lon Williams picked up a third place finish in the weight with a PR toss of 16.10 feet which earned him the No. 5 spot all time.
  • Kenya Pinckney was third in the meet with a leap of 6-2 meters in the high jump while Clarence Richardson was second collegiately in the 300m race.
  • Jeremy Shipley notched a third place finish in the 600m with a time of 1:25.27 and earned the number three spot all-time.

For The Women
  • Casey Miller placed first collegiately in the 600m with a time of 1:43.24 to earn the third spot in school history.
  • Rebekah Earhart was third in the 600m with a time of 1:47.14 to earn the fifth spot all time while Amber Opp was fourth with a time of 1:49.51.
  • Jessy Page placed sixth in the weight with a toss of 16.21 feet while Chelsi Smalls earned the No. 6 spot all time with a mark of 43.91 in the 300m.

"This was a terrific tune-up for the Southern Conference championship next week in Lexington, Virginia," said assistant coach Kris Kut. "We were able to post some fast times in events that are offered every week and should give us the confidence we need to perform well next week. The team has put forth a lot of effort these last few weeks and the results showed."

The Citadel track and field teams will travel to VMI to participate in the 2019 Indoor SoCon Championship on Saturday, Feb. 23.
