CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel dropped their Southern Conference dual to first-placed Campbell University on senior day.
Sawyer Root and Dajzon Casto were the lone Bulldogs to secure three points each.
The Bulldogs started out the day with three consecutive losses to the No. 10 ranked Camels.
At 165,
Dazjon Casto went into the third period tied with Cameron Pine before recording a match-winning takedown with five seconds to go. Casto improved his record to 1-1 in the SoCon and 25-17 overall in his freshman campaign.
Senior
Sawyer Root, took down Austin McNeil in the 197-pound match with a takedown and an escape to secure a 3-1 decision. Root is currently ranked No. 26 in the nation and will remain undefeated in the SoCon with the victory.
Junior
Rian Burris picked up a pair of takedowns for The Citadel in the 157-pound match against Benjamin Barton. Barton would go on to take the match by a major decision.
Michael McAleavey dropped a close match at heavyweight by a 6-3 decision to
Odgerel Batkhishig.Batkhishig secured the win with a one-point reversal.
The Citadel would lose by a final score of 38-6.
The 'Dogs will travel to Chattanooga this Friday, Feb. 8 as they take on the Mocs.
