Middle Innings Cost ‘Dogs at Charleston

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The Citadel gave up eight runs in the middle innings in falling, 11-1, to the College of Charleston Tuesday night at Patriots Point.

  • The Bulldogs committed a pair of errors in the fourth inning that helped the Cougars score five runs in the frame.
 
How it Happened
  • The Cougars got on the board in the first inning as three-straight singles, the third being a RBI single from Danny Wondrack.
  • CofC added to its leas in the fourth inning as they collected three hits, and were aided by two Bulldogs errors to score four runs.
  • A groundout and a walk scored the first two runs, before Wondrack's second RBI single of the day plated another run. A pair of throwing errors would allow two more runs to score in the inning.
  • The Cougars strung together six-straight hits in the fifth to push across three more runs. Logan McRae drove in two runs with a base hit and Chaz Davey followed with RBI single of his own.
  • The 'Dogs got on the board in the seventh inning as Lane Botkin and Wes Lane drew back-to-back two-out walks.
  • Tilo Skole followed with a RBI single to center field.
  • The Cougars answered back in the bottom of the inning to plate two runs on an Ari Sechopoulos sacrifice fly and RBI single from Clay Hunt.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Alex Bialakis (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing just one unearned run on three hits and four strikeouts over 3.0 innings.
  • Zach Williams (1-2) allowed one run on four hits over 6.2 innings to pick up the victory.
  • Zach Taglieri pitched a perfect sixth inning with one strikeout, while Austin Blakely did the same in the eighth.
  • Wes Lane made his first collegiate start and recorded his first career hit. The freshman also drew a walk.
  • Andrew Judkins was in the leadoff spot for the first time this season and singled to start the game. He also drew a walk.

The 'Dogs return to the diamond Friday evening as they travel to take on Furman in a three-game Southern Conference series. First pitch for the season opener is set for 6 p.m.
