SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Citadel men's tennis cadet-athlete
Phillip Quinn has been named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team, it was announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
The award is the first post-season plaudit for a Citadel men's tennis player since
Artemie Amare earned All-Freshman Team honors in 2015.
A native of Dallas, Texas and former four-star recruit, Quinn is tied with sophomore
Gavin Stewart for most singles victories on the team at 15. Eleven of Quinn's wins have come at No. 6 singles. Quinn has also been a part of 12 doubles victories, including 11 with junior
Noah Nawabi.
Quinn's 15 singles victories are tied for 10
th most in program history since 2000, while his 12 doubles wins are tied for 17
th.
From Feb. 24 to March 10, Quinn won seven straight singles matchups, including five in straight sets. Since Feb. 24, he is 10-4, including two SoCon victories.
Quinn and Nawabi rattled off four straight doubles victories at No. 3 doubles from Feb. 1 to Feb. 3. The duo also won back-to-back matches two other times, and went 4-1 from March 9 – 16.
Quinn is joined on the team by UNC Greensboro's
Hugh Knapp, Mercer's
David Geordgaze, Chattanooga's
Kerim Hyatt and
Tomas Rodriguez, and Wofford's
Bryce Keim.

Quinn and the Bulldogs will next head to Macon, Georgia for the 2019 Southern Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Championships hosted by Mercer. The 'Dogs will be the No. 8 seed in the tournament and will face No. 1 seed ETSU at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 18. The winner of that match will play the winner of the match between No. 4 Wofford and No. 5 Samford on Friday, April 19 at 2 p.m.
