CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel tennis team fell to College of Charleston, 7-0, in a midweek match on Wednesday at home.
Results
College of Charleston claimed the doubles point with wins at all three positions.
Noah Van Dyke and
Tucker Hendrix dropped a 6-3 decision at No. 1 doubles, while
Ted Bagwell and
Diego Ladino fell 6-2 at No. 2.
Reece Beckendorf and
Anthony Osipov were edged 7-5 at No. 3.
In singles play, Van Dyke competed at No. 1, followed by Bagwell at No. 2, Beckendorf at No. 3,
Nick Stroumpis at No. 4,
Anthony Osipov at No. 5 and
Graham Hardin at No. 6. Beckendorf pushed his match to three sets at No. 3, while Bagwell and Hardin each forced tiebreaks before College of Charleston secured the result.
"You've got to give College of Charleston credit for winning the tough matches," head coach
Chuck Kriese said. "They came through in key moments and finished strong as a team. They are well coached and have a very good team."
"I thought we had some opportunities throughout the match, and now the focus is on continuing to improve and getting ready for the stretch run of conference play," Kriese said. "We've had the chance to compete against some strong teams this season, and we're hoping those experiences will help us as we move forward."
The Bulldogs return to Southern Conference play on Wednesday, April 8, when they host ETSU at 2 p.m. in Charleston.
