JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Citadel track & field sprinter Josiah Johnson wrapped up his impressive career Thursday evening with a 29th-place showing at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminaries hosted by the University of North Florida and the Jacksonville Sports Council.

Johnson finished with a time of 10.55 after qualifying 33rd for the event. Last season, he put down a time of 10.41 and finished 31st.

The top 24 runners from Thursday will advance to race Friday. The top 12 finishers from Friday's race will advance to Austin, Texas to race in the finals.

Johnson was named the Southern Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Month for the month of April. He earned four podium finishes at the SoCon Outdoor Track and Field Championships, winning the 100-meter dash and the 4x100-meter relay, and finishing second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 4x400-meter relay.

Johnson, who ran 10.32 in the prelims, won the 100-meter in 10.50 seconds. The senior from Ladson, South Carolina, set a school record with his time of 21.08 in the 200-meter final. Johnson ran the second leg on The Citadel's 4x100 relay, which ran 40.71 to break an 18-year-old school record and defend its event title from 2018, and led off the 4x400 relay, which turned in the sixth-fastest time in school history (3:16.34). Earlier in the month, Johnson won the 100-meter dash at the Bill Carson Invitational and finished fourth in the event at the USC Open and 10th at the Gamecock Invitational.
