CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team will look to continue the current seven-game homestand this weekend with a Sunday matinee against Presbyterian. The Bulldogs and Blue Hose will kick off at 1 p.m.
EARNING THE POSITIVE RESULT
The 1-1 draw against USC Upstate is the first tie for The Citadel since the 2013 team recorded two draws. The 'Dogs, under the direction of Bob Winch, worked to a 1-1 tie against Canisius and a 2-2 draw with Winthrop. Both decisions were at home.
REMAINING UNDEFEATED AT HOME
With the 1-1 draw against the Spartans, The Citadel remains undefeated at home against USC Upstate. The Bulldogs are now 3-0-1 at WLI Field against the Spartans.
FIRST TIME GOAL SCORERS
Freshman
Ani Ford became the fourth first-time collegiate goal scorer this season, joining junior
Kate Manzione and fellow freshmen
Hayley Long and
Marie Le Gallo. The four first-time goal scorers are tied for fifth most in program history. Last season, the Bulldogs had six first-time collegiate goal scorers, matching the 2002 and 2010 teams for tops in program history.
CAREER DAY FOR SOMOGYI
Sophomore goalkeeper
Maddie Somogyi tied her career high with eight saves in the game against USC Upstate. She set the mark the game before against Navy.
THE HISTORY WITH PRESBYTERIAN
The Citadel and Presbyterian have met six times on the soccer pitch with the Blue Hose boasting a 5-1 record over the Bulldogs. The lone Citadel win in the series came in 2017 when the 'Dogs defeated PC 3-2 in Charleston. PC enters the weekend 2-1 against The Citadel in games played in Charleston. Last season, the Blue Hose defeated The Citadel 4-2 in Clinton.
SCOUTING THE BLUE HOSE
Presbyterian enters the weekend still searching for the first win of 2019, sitting at 0-5, including three losses on the road. The Blue Hose have scored three goals this season, with all three having been scored by a different player, including
Peyton Patterson,
Preston Robinette and
Emily Laboon.
Kori Lawrence and
Morgan Hutchison are the leading returners for goals scored last season with four each a season ago. Lawrence also added three assists for 11 total points. Robinette chipped in 13 points last season with three goals scored and a team-best seven assists. Both of the Blue Hose's top two goal scorers from last season,
Mallory Hopkins (6) and
Kelsey Yeager (5), graduated during the offseason. Presbyterian does return both goalkeepers from last season in
Megan Serrano and
Alyssa Leaman. Serrano played 1,130 minutes in goal with 56 saves and a 1.67 goals against average. This season, she has played over 289 minutes in goal with 21 saves.
COMING UP
Following the game with Presbyterian, the 'Dogs will host Columbia International and Jacksonville in the final non-conference home games of the season. The Bulldogs and Rams will tangle at WLI Field on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m., while the Dolphins will head to Charleston on Sunday, Sept. 22 for a 1 p.m. first kick.
