CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team will close out the non-conference portion of the 2019 schedule this weekend with a pair of home games at Washington Light Infantry Field. The Bulldogs will first host Columbia International on Thursday, Sept. 19 before welcoming Jacksonville on Sunday, Sept. 22.
FREE PIZZA FOR CADETS
The Citadel Department of Athletics will have free Papa John's pizza for the first 75 cadets to arrive for Thursday's game against Columbia International.
FREE ICE CREAM SUNDAY
The Citadel Department of Athletics will have free ice cream sandwiches for the first 150 fans to arrive for Sunday's game against Jacksonville.
BULLDOGS SIGN TWO THROUGH FRIENDS OF JACLYN FOUNDATION
The Citadel women's soccer team added a pair of super talented new members to the program on Tuesday, Sept. 17 as four-year-old
Milo Sligh and his six-year-old sister,
Annie Sligh were introduced during a signing ceremony at Washington Light Infantry Field. The Slighs and the Bulldogs were brought together by the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation's "Adopt-A-Child Program." Through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, Milo and Annie are now official members of the women's soccer program. As official members, they will be able to attend practices, games, team dinners, events, and more.
BULLDOG GREAT GARCIA TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE CITADEL ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME
The school's all-time leader in goals scored
, Mariana Garcia is the only women's soccer player in program history to earn Southern Conference Freshman of the Year and SoCon Player of the Year honors. She established new career marks with 37 goals and 79 points. She is also the program's leader in game-winning goals with 14. In her four seasons, Garcia tallied two of the top five goal-scoring campaigns. Her 14 goals during the 2012 season rank second all-time, while her 10 goals during the 2010 season are fifth most all-time. Garcia graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in biology and a minor in Spanish. She was a four-time member of the SoCon Honor Roll, two-time selection to the SoCon All-Academic Team and a two-time recipient of the Commissioner's Medal.
BULLDOGS FEATURED IN NCAA SOCCER'S TOP-FIVE WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYS OF THE WEEK

Hannah Roth and sophomore
Devyn Nyhart were featured by NCAA Soccer on Twitter and Instagram (@NCAASoccer) on Wednesday with the No. 5 women's soccer play of the week. The play came during the second half of the Sept. 15 game against Presbyterian with the Bulldogs trailing the Blue Hose 2-1. Nyhart gains control of the ball on the positive side of midfield and finds Roth a few yards ahead who makes a sliding shot from 30 yards out that cleared the goalkeeper for the equalizing score.
ROTH GETTING SHOTS OFF
Roth's 11 shots against Presbyterian were one off the program record set by
Lauren Merchant in a game vs. South Carolina State during the 2004 season. Roth is tied for second with Merchant and
Kelly Pesterfield.
ROTH MOVING UP THE CAREER CHARTS
Roth has now registered 21 career points, moving her up into a tie for 16th in program history. With her seventh career goal scored on Sunday against Presbyterian, Roth is now tied for 16
th in program history.
YOSUE GETTING IN ON THE SCORING ACTION

Suzuka Yosue became the Bulldogs' fifth different first-time collegiate goal scorer in the game against Presbyterian, joining junior
Kate Manzione and fellow freshmen
Ani Ford,
Hayley Long and
Marie Le Gallo. The record for most first-time collegiate goal scorers is six set by the 2002 squad and matched by the 2010 and 2018 teams. The 2013 squad also boasted five different first-time collegiate goal scorers.
MIKOY WITH THE ASSIST
On Sept. 15 against Presbyterian,
Mel Mikoy recorded her sixth career assist, and first this season. Mikoy moves up into a tie for ninth in program history for career assists.
SPREADING THE SCORING AROUND
Nine different Bulldogs have scored so far this season. Last season, 11 Bulldogs scored during the campaign.
JOHNSTON WITH THE WIN
Junior
Kaeley Johnston earned her first win of the season between the pipes on Sept. 15 against Presbyterian. The win marked the sixth of her career moving her up into a tie for fifth in program history.
THE HISTORY WITH COLUMBIA INTERNATIONAL
Thursday's game between the Bulldogs and the Rams will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs on the soccer pitch.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
Columbia International enters the weekend 4-2 on the year with a lopsided, 11-0 win in the season opener against Allen, a 5-0 win over Toccoa Falls and a 3-0 win in their most recent game over Kentucky Christian. The Rams are 3-0 on the road. The Rams boast six multi-goal scorers on the year, led by
Haley Hernandez and
Taylor Kyle's five goals.
Sotiria Tsilionis is third on the team with four goals scored, while
Kaylyn Hernandez has added three goals. Kyle is the leading assist maker with three on the year. Tsilionis has converted both of her penalty kicks this season. Between the pipes, the Rams have utilized three different goalkeepers, but it has been
Nadia Threatt who has shouldered the majority of the load, working over 500 minutes in goal with a 1.62 goals against average and 27 saves.
THE HISTORY WITH JACKSONVILLE
Jacksonville holds a 2-1 record over The Citadel heading into Sunday's game, including a 1-0 mark in Charleston. The two last met in 2017 with the Bulldogs claiming a 1-0 road victory. Prior to that meeting, the two teams squared off in 2010 and 2001.
SCOUTING THE DOLPHINS
Jacksonville heads into the weekend with an 0-5-1 mark. Before playing the Bulldogs on Sunday, the Dolphins will travel to Charleston to face off with the College of Charleston on Friday, Sept. 20. Once the weekend is over, Jacksonville will have played all three NCAA Division I teams from Charleston, including Charleston Southern in Jacksonville back on Aug. 22. Jacksonville has scored just two goals heading into the weekend, both by
Olivia Abdallah. Abdallah leads the team with 10 shots, including seven on goal.
Madison Taylor and
Kylie McCue each boast an assist. In goal, three different keepers have split time led by
Kristian Shores with over 380 minutes to go along with a 1.88 goals against average and 26 saves. Michelle Jerantowski has played 135 minutes and made 14 saves.
COMING UP
Following this weekend's non-conference action, the Bulldogs will jump into Southern Conference play with a road trip to UNCG and VMI. The Bulldogs will first tangle with the Spartans in Greensboro, N.C. on Friday, Sept. 27 before making the trek up to Lexington, Va. for a Sunday, Sept. 29 matinee with the Keydets.
