CARY, N.C. – The Citadel men's and women's cross country teams each finished ahead of North Carolina Central and Gardner-Webb Friday afternoon as the Bulldogs competed in the adidas XC Challenge hosted by NC State.

The Bulldogs will next compete in the Queen City Invite hosted by Queens University (N.C.) in Charlotte, N.C. The invite will be contested on Friday, Sept. 27.

CARY, N.C. – The Citadel men's and women's cross country teams each finished ahead of North Carolina Central and Gardner-Webb Friday afternoon as the Bulldogs competed in the adidas XC Challenge hosted by NC State.

Men's Distance: 6,000 meters (6K)
Women's Distance: 5,000 meters (5K)

MEN'S RACE
- The Bulldog men finished eighth out of 10 teams in the NCAA Division I race.
- The Citadel was paced by sophomore Lane Johnson, who finished 55th with a time of 20:06.2.
- Finishing second on the squad was freshman Andrew Smith with a time of 20:18.1.
- Freshmen Billy Eggers and Ty Duben and junior Jeremy Shipley rounded out the Bulldogs' scoring five. Eggers finished with a time of 20:35.9, Duben cruised home in a time of 20:52.7 and Shipley posted a time of 21:29.0.
- Freshman Aidan Richter finished the 6K in a time of 21:58.8 and senior Eric Avalos finished in a time of 22:16.3.
WOMEN'S RACE
- The Bulldog women finished seventh out of nine teams.
- Junior Amber Opp paced the women's squad with a 46th-place finish in a time of 19:07.9, setting a season-best time in the 5K.
- Freshman Heidi Fortin raced her way to a personal-best 19:22.3, finishing 52nd.
- Junior Casey Miller and senior Jordan Neeley both posted season-best times, Miller racing to a 20:10.5, while Neeley cruised to a 21:34.3.
- Freshman Grace Wolfe finished the 5K in a time of 20:51.8, finishing fourth on the team.
- Senior Daniela Sanchez-Martinez and junior Kenslee Padgett rounded out the squad for the Bulldogs. Sanchez-Martinez posted a time of 23:15.7, while Padgett finished in a time of 24:10.6.
