Cross Country Wraps Up Queen City Invitational

RESULTS

CHARLOTTE, N.C.
 – The Citadel women's and men's cross country teams competed in the Queen City Invitational Friday afternoon, with the Bulldog women finishing 15th, while the men wrapped up the event 18th.

MEET INFORMATION
Race: Queen City Invitational
Location: McAlpine Creek Park (Charlotte, N.C.)
Women's Distance: 5,000 meters (5K)
Men's Distance: 8,000 meters (8K)

WOMEN'S RACE
  • The Citadel women's team finished 15th out of 39 teams, including ahead of NCAA Division I teams like Presbyterian, Longwood, Gardner-Webb, Coastal Carolina and Savannah State.
  • Junior Amber Opp finished 22nd overall with a personal-record time of 18:47.
  • Freshman Heidi Fortin finished second on the team with a 44th-place finish with a seasn-best time of 19:18.
  • Junior Casey Miller finished third for the Bulldogs with a time of 20:36, while senior Jordan Neeley was fourth with a time of 21:11.
  • Freshman Grace Wolfe wrapped up the race in a time of 21:15, and Kenslee Padgett raced her way to a time of 23:58.

MEN'S RACE
  • The men's team finished 18th out of 42 teams, including besting NCAA Division I opponents like Presbyterian, Longwood, Savannah State and Gardner-Webb.
  • Sophomore Lane Johnson led the way for the second straight week, finishing the 8K in a time of 27:35.
  • Freshman Ty Duben finished second for the men with a time of 27:53, while fellow freshman Andrew Smith was third on the squad with a time of 28:01.
  • Junior Jeremy Shipley finished in a time of 28:29 with freshman Billy Eggers wrapping up the top five for the Bulldogs with a time of 28:43.
  • Freshman Aidan Richter was the sixth Bulldogs across the finish line with a time of 29:31, while senior Eric Avalos rounded out the top seven for The Citadel with a time of 29:52.

COMING UP
The Citadel will next race at the Disney Cross Country Classic in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, Oct. 12.
