COLUMBIA, S.C. – Saturday marked the fifth week in a row that at least one program record was set for The Citadel track and field programs. This time, three program records were set to go along with 21 personal records at the USC Indoor Open.
The Women's Side Rundown
- Freshman Heidi Fortin set the program freshman record in the mile with a personal-record time of 5:20.66. The mark, which is also the fourth-fastest time in program history overall, broke the previous mark set by teammate Amber Opp.
- Sophomore Mya Dollard finished sixth in the high jump with a leap of 5' 0.5".Â
The Men's Side Rundown
- Junior Sam Blumer won the men's pole vault with a program and school record of 16' 4.75" (5.00 meters).
- Freshman Sam Sharnas set his fifth program record of the indoor season, this one the freshman record in the 3,000-meter race with a personal record of 8:47.06. The time placed him fourth on the day and is seventh overall in program history.
- Senior Prince Howard-Whitaker threw a PR in the weight throw of 51' 6.5" to finish third overall on the day. The mark is eighth in school history. He also threw a PR of 46' 2.5" in the shot put to take fourth.
- Junior Devin Merrick finished second in the pole vault with a height of 15' 5".
- Freshman Sam LaRosa finished seventh in the pole vault with a PR height of 13' 7.25".
- Senior Cardan Williams recorded a personal record time of 22.24 in the 200-meter dash
- Junior Timiebi Ogobri raced to a PR time of 22.94 in the 200m.
- Freshman Kane Duncan recorded a PR of 50.79 in the 400-meter dash.
- Junior Jeremy Shipley posted a PR of 50.91 in the 400m.Â
COMING UP
The Bulldogs will next travel to Lexington, Virginia for the 2020 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 29 – March 1.
