CHARLESTON, SC – Sophomore wrestler Selwyn Porter earned one of the 14 spots the Southern Conference was allocated to participate in the 2020 NCAA Wrestling Championships in Minneapolis in less than two weeks. 

This is the first trip to the NCAA's for Porter after finishing second in the SoCon at 149 and finishing the year 19-18. 

Porter bounced back from an early loss in the SoCon quarterfinals to defeat Chattanooga's Tanner Smith in the true second place match.

For the first time in its history, the NCAA Wrestling Championships will be held in a stadium as opposed to an arena. The championships will take place at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The NCAA uses a complex set of ordered criteria to choose the final tournament participants, which explicitly included the following: "head-to-head competition, quality wins, results against common opponents, winning percentage, rating percentage index, coaches ranking, and qualifying event placement."

Brackets and seeding for the 2020 NCAA tournament will be revealed during a selection show on Wednesday, March 11 at 6 p.m. on NCAA.com.
