CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel men's and women's cross country teams will open the Fall 2020 season this weekend, racing in the Julius Johnson Invitational hosted by Mercer and Middle Georgia on Saturday, Sept. 19.
The meet, which will be held at the Georgia Premier Cross-Country Course in Macon, Georgia, will feature four races beginning with the Orange Race Men's 8,000 meters at 7:45 a.m. The Bulldog men will take part in the Orange race, with the Bulldog women racing in the Orange Race Women's 5,000 meters at 8:30 a.m.
ABOUT THE WOMEN'S TEAM
The Bulldog women feature five experienced collegiate runners with two newcomers added to the mix. Sophomore
Heidi Fortin, who became the program's first-ever Southern Conference All-Freshman Team honoree, is back to lead the charge along with senior captain
Casey Miller. The duo will be joined by seniors
Amber Opp and
Kenslee Padgett, as well as sophomore
Grace Wolfe. Freshmen
Gabby Shea and
Bayleigh Gentieu were added during the off season.
ABOUT THE MEN'S TEAM
The Citadel men's team returns seven runners from a season ago, including a strong sophomore class that includes
Sam Sharnas,
Ty Duben,
Aidan Richter and
Andrew Smith. The Bulldogs will continue to lean on senior
Jeremy Shipley and juniors
Devon Heisler and
Andrew McNay. Added to the mix will be four freshmen, including
Bryce Baglia,
Robert Perrecone,
Will Ray and
Alex Wulfhorst.
COMING UP
The Bulldogs will take part in a meet at Columbia College on Saturday Oct. 3, before closing the season out at the Chanticleer Challenge on Friday, Oct. 16.
