CHARLESTON, S.C. –
The Citadel women's soccer team opens the month of October with a three-game road swing that begins this week with a pair of games against App State and Belmont Abbey.

The Bulldogs will face off against the Mountaineers on Thursday, Oct. 1 in a neutral-site game in Greenville at the Wenwood Soccer Complex (1967 Ridge Road, Greenville, SC 29607) before traveling to Belmont, North Carolina to face the Crusaders on Saturday, Oct. 3. Kickoff of Thursday's game is set for 2 p.m., while Saturday's game will feature a 4:30 p.m. first kick.

COMING UP
Next week, the Bulldogs travel to Southern Conference foe Mercer on Saturday, Oct. 10 for the second part of a home-and-home series that began with a 1-1, double-overtime draw back on Sept. 17. The 'Dogs will close out the Fall 2020 schedule on Friday, Oct. 16 with a home game against Georgia Southern.

LAST TIME OUT
The Bulldogs gave No. 12 Pitt everything it could handle in a pair of games at Washington Light Infantry (WLI) Field last week. The 'Dogs dropped the first game, 2-1 in overtime, before falling 1-0 in the second contest. In both contests, the Bulldogs weren't afraid to push the attack on Pitt.

FIRST-TIME GOAL SCORER
In the Bulldogs' first game last week against No. 12 Pitt (Sept. 24), freshman Zoey Conrad broke through with her first collegiate goal in the 71st minute to put the Bulldogs up 1-0 on the Panthers. Last season, eight Bulldogs scored their first-ever collegiate goals to set the program record. The previous record was six set by the 2002 team and matched by the 2010 and 2018 squads.

THE HISTORY WITH APP STATE
The Bulldogs and Mountaineers have squared off 13 times on the soccer pitch, but the two teams have not met since the 2013 season. The two have never played a neutral-site game, and have never faced off as non-conference opponents. In the last five meetings, the Bulldogs hold a 3-1-1 advantage, including three straight wins from Sept. 26, 2010 to Oct. 19, 2012. App State won the first eight games in the series, and won the last meeting 9-3 in Charleston.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
App State enters the week 2-4-0, with a 2-2-0 record in Sun Belt play. The Mountaineers and Bulldogs share a common opponent in Pitt, which beat App State 4-0 on Sept. 10 and 7-1 on Sept. 13, both in Boone. Following a 2-1 home loss in Sun Belt play to Georgia State, the Mountaineers pulled off back-to-back wins over Georgia Southern (3-0, Sept. 20) and Troy (1-0, Sept. 25) before falling 3-0 at home to South Alabama. The Mountaineers have played just one game away from Boone, going to Statesboro, Georgia to face Georgia Southern.

APP STATE INDIVIDUALLY
The Mountaineers have been led in scoring so far by senior midfielder Mary Perkins with two goals and an assist. Behind Perkins, four players have each tallied a goal, with senior midfielder/forward Tess Cairney and redshirt junior midfielder Drew Hallum each also adding an assist. Cairney leads the way with eight shots, including four on frame, while Perkins and sophomore midfielder Olivia Cohen have both taken six shots. In between the pipes, sophomore Kerry Eagleston has played the majority of the minutes (508:52), and holds a 2.30 goals against average compared to 24 saves.

THE HISTORY WITH BELMONT ABBEY
Saturday's game in Belmont will mark the first-ever meeting between the two programs. It will count towards The Citadel's record, but will be marked as an exhibition for Belmont Abbey.

SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
Belmont Abbey is a member of the Conference Carolinas, which is not playing a fall season. The Crusaders played Bob Jones on Sept. 26 in an exhibition, winning 3-1 at home. In 2019, Belmont Abbey went 12-5-3, including 8-1-2 in conference and 8-1-0 at home, with a streak of 10 games in a row with a positive result. The Crusaders advanced to the league championship game against No. 1 seed Mount Olive, falling 2-1 after defeating its previous two opponents in the tournament by a combined score of 4-1.

BELMONT ABBEY INDIVIDUALLY
The Crusaders were led last season by Morgan Patton's 10 goals, nine goals each from Allyson Elliott and Goose Andrews, and Tatiana Daugherty chipped in seven goals. Andrews and Daugherty were both freshmen last season and have returned, while Patton and Elliott each graduated. Patton led the team with 60 shots, including 30 on frame, while Daugherty took 50 shots, 31 of which were on goal. In goal, Lauryn Harding, a junior in 2020, started all 20 games in 2019, playing over 1,700 minutes with a 1.07 goals against average and 112 saves.
