How It Happened
- Wofford took control of the game over the opening 10 minutes of action, using a 12-0 run to power itself to an early 29-14 lead over the Bulldogs. Three minutes later, the Terriers took their largest lead of the night, 33-17, on Max Klesmit's fast break basket at the 7:11 mark of the first half.
- The Terriers maintained their double-digit advantage for much of the remainder of the half, but The Citadel's high-powered offensive attack came to life in the final three minutes. The Bulldogs rattled off 10 unanswered points to end the half, six of which came off the hands of Brown, and The Citadel cut the deficit to just four points, 42-38, heading into the locker room.
- The run continued after the break for The Citadel scored 11 of the first 13 points of the second frame to grab its first lead of the evening. Three straight triples, two from Fletcher Abee and another from Rice, left the Bulldogs with a 51-44 advantage with 15:36 on the clock. Ultimately, The Citadel erased its 16-point deficit with a 23-2 run that spanned eight total minutes across the two halves.
- The lead grew to as many as 12 points for the 'Dogs after another 8-0 run, capped by Rice finding Brown at the top of the key for another three-pointer to give The Citadel a double-digit lead.
- Twice Wofford was able to trim its deficit to five points over the next several minutes, and a Storm Murphy three-point play cut the Bulldogs' lead to 67-62. Another long run, however, effectively put the game out of reach for the Terriers. Eight straight points, coupled with a five-minute scoring drought from Wofford, gave The Citadel an insurmountable 75-62 edge with 1:39 to play.
- Wofford cut the lead to single digits in the final minute, but the Bulldogs were able to run out the clock with their big lead to claim the victory.
Inside the Numbers
- Kaiden Rice led all scorers with 21 points and moved into fourth place on The Citadel's career three-point list with 244 career makes. Rice passed both Austin Dahn (243) and Alan Puckett (242) on Wednesday evening.
- Hayden Brown approached triple-double territory with 16 points, 14 rebounds and six assists on the evening. That marked Brown's seventh double-double in 13 opportunities this season as he remains the only player in the SoCon averaging a double-double.
- Tyler Moffe logged 18 points, his best mark in a game since joining The Citadel as a graduate transfer, and was a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point range. Moffe also logged six rebounds and four assists while turning the ball over just once in 31 minutes of action.
- The Citadel held Wofford to 5-of-29 shooting (17.2 percent) from beyond the arc, the Terriers' worst mark in that category in a single game since Dec. 31, 2015, at Harvard.
