CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team opens Southern Conference Tournament action on Tuesday as the No. 7 Bulldogs host No. 10 VMI in the first round at WLI Field. The match is set for 3 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Bulldogs in the SoCon Tournament
The Citadel enters the conference tournament in search of a victory for the third-straight year. The Bulldogs went on the road in 2018 and scored three second-half goals to knock off Wofford, 3-2. The Citadel followed it up with a Suzuka Yosoue goal in the 60
th minute to defeat ETSU, 1-0.
Facing VMI in SoCon Tournament
Tuesday's contest will mark the second all-time meeting between the two schools in the conference tournament. The teams met in the opening round of the 2014 tournament with the Bulldogs winning 3-0 in Lexington. Mady Riegel scored the first goal of the match in the fifth minute on a rebound off of her own shot. The Citadel added goals from Vanessa Aponte (56
') and Lea Raedle (89') for the final margin of victory.
Geller Scores Pair Against Keydets
Jordyn Geller scored a goal in each half to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-0 victory over VMI on Oct. 8 in Lexington, Virginia. Geller scored in the 28
th minute and later added a goal in the 78
th minute for her first multi-goal game as a Bulldog.
Contreras Leads Program in Wins
Maria Contreras has been a part of more victories than any other player in program history. The midfielder has helped the Bulldogs to 36 wins over the past five years. It is the most wins over any five-year period since the program began in 2001.
