Wrestling Heads to Southern Conference Championships

BOONE, N.C. – The Citadel wrestling looks to cap off a successful season as it travels to the Southern Conference Championships on Feb. 28. The event will take place at the Holmes Convocation Center on the campus of Appalachian State.
Due to COVID-19 protocols and adherence with local and state guidelines, there will be no general ticket sales at the SoCon Wrestling Championship. In addition to the teams, essential staff, workers and administrative personnel on site, a maximum of 13 student-athletes and three coaches per team are permitted to request two non-transferrable tickets each for immediate family members. A clear-bag policy will be in effect at the Holmes Convocation Center. The championship will be streamed in its entirety on ESPN+.
The Bulldogs have a pair of wrestlers seeding No. 1 in their respective weight classes. Jake Rotunda is the top seed at 133 pounds and Michael McAleavey is the top seed at heavyweight. Both wrestlers earned all-conference honors earlier this week.
McAleavey finished the regular season with an overall record of 13-1 and a 10-0 mark in duals. He won all eight of his SoCon matches, including winning by fall in five.
Rotunda finished the regular season with a 6-1 record in dual matches. His only loss came when he was forced to retire due to injury.
The Bulldogs have four wrestlers who will enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed. Tyler Seeley (141), Selwyn Porter (149), Dazjon Casto (165) and Cole Burke (174) will open their competitions against the No. 5 seed.
Jordie White enters as the No. 5 seed at 125 pounds, while Kyle Kretzer (184) and Ben Stemmet (197) enters as the No. 6 seed. Grant Speer (157) will be the No. 7 seed in his weight class.
