CHARLESTON, S.C. – After qualifying for the NCAA East Regional in his final regular-season opportunity,
Sam Blumer will represent The Citadel in the pole vault at the event on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 3 p.m. in Jacksonville, Fla., on the campus of North Florida.
Blumer hit his personal-best and set a new school record at the Mount Olive First Chance and Multi event on May 15, vaulting to a height of 16-7.5 (5.07m) to claim the championship. His vault was nearly five inches higher than his closest competitor and sealed his spot as one of the 48 best vaulters in the East Region.
Seeded 41st among the 48 competitors on Wednesday, Blumer's first attempt will come at a height of 15-11 (4.85m), a mark that he has hit or exceeded in each of his last four outdoor competitions.
Blumer is set to be The Citadel's first representative at the East Regional since Josiah Johnson competed in the 100m dash in the 2019 competition.
