CHARLESTON, S.C. – Sam Blumer, The Citadel's school record holder in both the indoor and outdoor pole vault, has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team as announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon, picking up the honor for the second consecutive year.
 
Blumer becomes The Citadel's sixth honoree to earn Academic All-District accolades in 2020-21, joining football's Raleigh Webb, baseball's Travis Lott, soccer's Logan Dix and men's basketball's Fletcher Abee and Hayden Brown. The senior was also one of only four Southern Conference athletes recognized alongside Furman's Mason Coppi and Josh Powers and Chattanooga's Jonathan Boyd.
 
In May, Blumer became The Citadel's first competitor at the NCAA East Regional since Josiah Johnson during the 2019 campaign, placing 35th in the pole vault after outperforming his initial seeding of 41st. The Greenville, S.C., native established new school records this season in both the indoor (16-5.25/5.01m) and outdoor (16-7.5/5.07m) pole vault events and placed in the top 10 in eight of his nine competitions this season.
 
In the classroom, Blumer carries a 3.913 cumulative GPA as a construction engineering major and was a recipient of The Citadel's Colonel Louis Shephard LeTellier Award, presented annually to the member of the graduating class with the highest GPA in the civil engineering field.
 
This year's CoSIDA Academic All-America honorees are currently set to be announced on Thursday, August 12. The Citadel is a member of CoSIDA's District 4, comprised of programs located in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Puerto Rico.
